Continuing DNS problems.... please help!

Hi all,
Having some serious problems with my computer establishing a wireless connection. Here's the situation: I have a desktop which I have a Linksys Wireless G adapter connected to. I'm trying to connect to a linksys wireless router that someone forgot to put security on. I DO NOT have physical access to the router, unfortunately. Obviously I can log in to the router using the default IP/admin password, so I do have access to that.

My computer can recognize the network and connect but once it's connected it has no Internet access. I tried using the static DNS trick listed here : Windows 7 DNS server not responding

That worked for about 4 hours, then stopped. Now the troubleshooter is telling me the same thing - that it can't communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS server)

I'm running Windows 7 obviously, but if I can provide more information let me know.

Any help would be great.

Obviously we cant support illegal activities. It does how ever seem like a DNS problem. As a workaround, and again assuming that what you are attempting is legal, have you tried flushing your/that routers dns? You do that by typing

(in search>cmd>ipconfig /flushdns, then ipconfig /renew).

If you dont have permission dont attempt this

I have tried flushing the DNS to no avail. Also, multiple searchable sources on the Internet confirm that using an unsecured network does not violate any laws, FCC or otherwise.

Any other ideas?

According to the Technet thread you posted, you should be able to Disable the MS Virtual WiFI Miniport adaptor and get your connection working again.

You need to go into Device Manager first, then open the Network Adaptors tab, go to top of page and click on the View tab, then choose "Show Hidden Devices" in order to see the MS miniport adaptor at which point you can disable it.

If you havn't tried that one yet it might be worth a try. Seems to be a wireless driver problem.

Ok here's where I'm at:

I've flushed both the DNS and renew in command prompt.
Tried to disable the miniport adapter(see below)
Restarted the computer.

My question is : what am I supposed to be disabling in device manager? When I reveal the hidden items, this is the list I get:

Linksys wireless adapter
Microsoft ISATAP adapter
Microsoft ISATAP adapter #2
Nvidia networking controller
Ras async adapter
Teredo tunneling pseudo interface
Wan miniport Ikev2
Wan miniport IP
Wan miniport IPv6
Wan miniport l2tp

Wan miniport pppoe
Wan miniport pptp
Wan miniport sstp

Try manually setting you DNS with OpenDNS.

208.67.222.222

I've already tried using static DNS as I said in my first post, but thanks for the input!

In addition, now when I run the troubleshooter it cannot identify the problem. However, the little triangle and exclamation point remains and Internet connectivity is absent.
