I have a 1920x1080 display on a Inspiron 1750 running Windows 7. I have tried to change the DPI and for some reason the red runs on the right side of the display because of a bad driver that is the best I can get. I have also tried changing resolutions and that blurs things. There are several windows such as Control Panel that have small font; is there a way to increase the size?

Do you have a Intel GMA 4500M in the Device Manager under display adapters, or some type of amd card?

The adapter is: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family.

This is a Windows 7/8 dual boot system and the drive for 8 works fine, I can adjust the DPI or the resolution without any bad effects.

Same thing...

I had not updated 7 for many months because I was using 8 and the display was fine. When I decided to do the updates - there was around 600mb and that is when the display got upset. I had the original driver and tried to get it to work, but same story.

Can you post an image of the stuff with intel in it from programs and features? You will probably have to uninstall the drivers then do driver cleaning and then install the old driver for it to work like before.

Okay uninstall only the graphics one and reboot, and also searching for support on that machine it looks like they do not have that model to search for anymore, can you post your service tag that should be on the bottom of the laptop as that will tell the website to give the right link for support. The only 1750 they have is the desktop version.

EDIT: after rebooting then uninstall it from the device manager as well under display adapters and check the box uninstall software that way it removes whatever windows saved for it. Then you should be able to install your older driver.

I have it memorized. Be aware that there is a hardware (processor) issue that this PC will not accept 8.1 for what ever that is worth.

Thanks and that is not an issue if your trying to fix just 7 for the time being. Use this driver when you have uninstalled the old one Intel GM45 Video, v.15.15.64.1808, A00 Driver Details | Dell US and I guess they did have it on the site but it uses the pic of a desktop and has some stuff in your system config under the service tag as desktop software but also clearly says notebook. They really made there part inventory confusing.

I may have sent you on a wild goose chase. I did not have any shortcuts on the right side of my screen, but I have some gadgets and the gadget text is what is distorted. I moved file over to the right side and the file name looks fine. What threw me off is that there are other gadgets on the same side and the text on them are fine. This is different, the background image of both gadgets is missing and the white text bleeds red.

2 out of 4 have the problem; there are 11, but 8 are the same basic gadget and are fine. I also have the same setup on Window 8 without any issues.

Can you take a pic of the issue please, is this issue only on the gadgets then and not other system windows like the control panel. Also have you tried setting a different power plan in power options, like high performance to test to see if the issue goes away?

Gadget on left is correct; the one on the right is @ 125% DPI - the background @ 125% is the desktop:

Yeah that is odd as it seems to break alpha layer it uses (the pink is supposed to mean that is transparent) You could try system restoring to a time that you know it was working then not take the update. Gadgets in general have been discontinued so support is not the greatest for them. I use rainmeter my self as it is way better for monitoring and what not.

I am going to do some in depth study of the gadgets tomorrow and will post anything useful that I find. All restore points except for the last have been deleted so that option is gone.

thanks for your help rcvjew...

The problem with the gadgets seems to be in the DTD, but I cannot answer it totally or fix the problem. I added the following to one of the gadgets and at 100% DPI it look like it does at 125%. DTD has several setting and the creator of the gadget evidently did not follow protocol. The gadget I posted is encoded (not obfuscated) and I cannot open it.

Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
