That's the one I always used when I was running XP, thanks for finding it I couldn't remember where I got it from.

Even the British who made up the imperial system switched over to metric ... why US is still with imperial system ??? This is a big question for me ... Any answers ?

We like it. Look up what a meter is based on.
But I posted this as a helpful tool, not to be criticized, back to topic.

Being from a metric country, when I was in US I find it little difficult to adapt to the system. Thought one of you will give a plausible explanation.

The most plausible answer I would have given would have gone like this....
If it is working don't break it.
Not hard to switch over but must start in pre-school and the change over would take years to accomplish. Our government is working on creating joba and learning how to stop spending our money.

I didn't mean to offend you or anything. Don't get me wrong, the conversion tool is perfect especiakly for non-windows 7 systems due to the lack of it.

I don't criticize the tool itself. I'm just expressing the feelings I share with the author of theoatmeal.com in regards to the whole imperial-metric system issue

Only partly true! We are schizophrenic about it:

• We buy beer in pints but petrol in litres (though if we are talking about fuel efficiency, we still use miles per gallon);
• When I say we buy beer in pints, that's draught beer - bottled beer is usually sold in 500 mL bottles;
• We buy meat by the kilogram except in McDonald's, where you can still get a quarter-pounder;
• We weigh ourselves in pounds but weigh vegetables in kilograms;
• We use Celsius for temperature, but everyone my age converts it back to Fahrenheit so we can work out whether to wear a coat or not

Even in the U.S. we do have a few types of items measured using the metric system -- e.g. many canned/bottled food and liquid items.
