Cool Ambient Temps here in South Fla....

Hi,

New to this forum, but not new to PCs and OCing......

Wanted to point out that here in south FLa, with these frigid temps (for us...don't laff) my OC testing has been enhanced because the temps inside my home are down as well.

I see so many people spend big bux and go thru such pains to get their OC'd CPU temps down to something nice again, never considering that something simple like room temperature (aka Ambient) has such a HUGE impact on temps inside your pc....

I have one of these desks that places my PC under a full corner....it used to collect loads of hot air underneath to such an extent that it was no doubt sucking the hot air back into the PC's air intakes. Finally, I bought a new whole saw and opened a 3.5 inch hole near the top of the back panel (under the desk surface) of the desk. Then I mounted a 120mm fan (exhausting outside the desk), and I strung the power wire back into the PC so it would turn off when the pc was off. That single fan lowered my CPU temp almost 7C....from 48C to 41C.

I have since added a better HSF cooler and a couple other case fans and today with the ambient temp hovering near 40 outside, my CPU is runing a nice cool 33C (according to Asus Probe II)....

If you are trying to OC in a hot little room, cool the room first, and THEN cool the CPU / system.

Just my two cents....

Sammydad1 welcome to SF,
It's a very valid point that ambient temps are critical to understanding our cooling techniques. I like you live in a normally very warm environment and it directly impacts the OC'g performance.

Don't all the CPU temps "RIDE ON TOP OF THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE" ??? Thats what I was always led to believe. I'm not much north of you in the same state.:):):)
