It's not real hard, just read the instructions carefully. They won't be real descriptive. You Tube has a bunch of videos to show you how. They are good coolers. Get some quality thermal paste instead of what comes with it. This is a different socket, but the same process.

I suggest Arctic MX-4. It's non-conductive (less likely to short anything out if you use too much), easy to apply, and does not require a burn in period. Newbies are far less likely to have problems with it.

The Artic Silver 5 is fine. Just be careful not to use too much (try putting some on and removing the cooler afterward to see if you are putting the correct amount on, then clean it off and reapply). You will also have to run the computer 24/7 while under load for a few days so it will run a bit on the hot side to burn in the paste. I just recommend the Arctic MX-4 because it's easier to use.

I just downloaded a pdf explaining how to apply the paste in a vertical line I'll follow those directions step by step on my other tower while I do the job. One line doesn't seem like much paste but, I'd rather be safe than sorry. Thanks again! :)

Trust me, less paste is better. Too much will give you higher temps and can damage your CPU. I use the glob in the middle. Between the size of a BB and the size of a pea. There are a lot of methods, and everyone has their preference. None are wrong, just what works best for you. It's only wrong if you put too much on it. But, Artic Silver is a good brand which is very popular. It just has a long cure time. But, it works well. These are the instructions from Artic Silver, if you don't have their cleaning kit (which is very good) High purity alcohol works very well, and use a lint free rag to clean the old stuff off. A coffee filter works very well.
