Hi guys,

I've read a number of posts here and on other forums but I am really stuck on this one. I have a staff member who has the following problem.
She looks after the complaints that come into the company. She will copy the email address from the original email into the "To:" section of a new email. She then opens a word document with a pre-written response and copies it to the email. BUT....when she tries to paste the document all she gets is the email address she copied earlier. This happens no matter the method she uses to copy and paste, ie using Ctrl C and Ctrl V or from the menu.
She is able to copy to and from like programs, eg she can copy from one word document to another, an excel spreadsheet to another excel spreadsheet and so on.
Also at one stage while I was connected to her machine via TeamViewer I copied some text on my machine and pasted it to an email. When she tried to copy and paste some text she got my copied text!
This is what I have done.

Uninstalled then re-installed Microsoft Office 2007.
Updated both OS, Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, and the Office Suite.

These steps have not helped. I'm starting to suspect there is something wrong with the clipboard/caching function but am not sure.

Any suggestions?

Sean

Same type of problem here with a possible answer:
Outlook 2007 - repainting (?) problems when copying and pasting between windows: have to switch focus before pasted text is visible - Super User
.
.

Describing the problem made me think it might be related to the Outlook/office Paste options (Tools > Options > Mail Format > Editor Options.. > Advanced > Cut, Copy & Paste)

I had them all set to Match Destination Formatting. Now I've changed them to the Defaults ('Keep Source Formatting' for all except Pasting between emails when style definitions conflict: Use Destination Styles) and the problem appears to have gone away!

If I then change the options back to Match Destination Formatting the problem reappears.

Hello Irene,

Thank you for your response but unfortunately this did not solve the problem.

I'm starting to think it's a clipboard problem and might try going down that path, either that or see if the PC can survive a drop from a 10 building!

Hi David,

Thanks for the reply. I've used the SFC program and not had any luck. I've seen the link regarding the clipboard before and will give this a go as I think you are right, this is all coming down to a faulty clipboard.

Hi Guys,

I haven't really been able to find a direct answer to this but what I'm trying now is to recreate the users profile, a tedious effort in itself. Adding programs back onto the machine so fingers crossed the copy and paste issue is rectified. If not I'm just going to format the machine and start again.

Looks like the creation of a new profile did the trick. :-)

Stumbled on an Answer to my Windows 7 Cut-n'-Paste problem

I too had the CNTL<C> CNTL<V> issue ... (and the touchpad's cut n'paste functionality). I no longer was able to highlight a phrase on an eBay listing, and then paste it into eBay's search box.

From my initial DELL OS restore of my hardrive back to the initial delivered state, all was working fine ... somewhere along the line the functionality changed, so I suspected it was something I'd done.

I read numerous posts pointing at the clipboard and various other software culprits ...

However, in my case, it was the Synaptics pointing device on my DELL XPS L-702x laptop.

Under the tab:
Mouse Properties/Buttons - is a feature called "Clicklock"

If I leave the box "UNCHECKED" (which must be the default from the system restore) ... then I have normal, expected behavior of Cut-n'-Paste functionality ...

When I 'Check' the "Turn on ClickLock" box ... the problems come back ...

Hope this helps someone ...

JimP
