Copy files to new PC - file permission problems

In both cases there are files that request admin permission before starting to copy, but the admin permission of my new laptop does not work for those files.


Were you not the administrator on your old laptop ?

I realize this post is very dated, but I never saw this solution posted and I will post this for anyone else struggling with this issue. I had the exact same issue with the "green" folders when I was moving files from one computer to another. We discovered that the green folders were "encrypted."

The easy solution here is to select the main folder that holds all of the subfolders (this folder is probably green as well) and right click and select "properties."

Then in the general tab click "advanced..."

Then uncheck the box that says "Encrypt contents to secure data."

Then hit "ok" and then "ok."

It will ask if you want to apply the settings to just that folder or all subfolders and files. Select all subfolders and files and hit "OK." This will remove all of the green folders and you will be able to transfer the files from one computer to another with ease.
