In some rare cases, I noticed that you cannot paste something that you have copied - e.g. a product key into the product key field during installation. In lieu of Paste, use CTL+V. That has always worked.

This seems to be some odd behaviour of the Clipboard for which I have no explanation.

I blame the way the application accesses the keyboard or the operating environment it runs under - not the clipboard.

Notepad running under native Windows allows me to click within its Window and copy the clipboard to it via either Ctrl+V or Right Click context menu and PASTE

When I launch a CMD.EXE shell I can ONLY copy via Right Click context menu and PASTE.
When I use Ctrl+V I actually get
^V
There is no attempt to copy the clipboard contents to CMD.EXe via Ctrl+V

Windows is a Rabbit warren of holes
