Solved Copy/Paste Problem in LibeOffice Writer

Well, pigs fly, unicorns exist (pity I'm no longer a virgin), and I stumbled on how to get copy/paste from a web article to LibreOffice writer in pretty much one shot. It apparently boils down to Styles. I always hated Styles in Word (I found them too confusing to bother with; templates were easier) and hate them even worse in Writer (I couldn't get them work even when following the manual mutter, mutter, mumble, mumble) so, again, I relied on templates.

For some strange reason (genius? delirium?), I got bit by inspiration tonight (I hope it was inspiration and not something else) and tried making a Writer template from a blank Word doc. I tested the new template with three web articles. All three copy and pasted into the template with only minor issues. In all three articles, I had to rebold (is that a word?) the subtitles (big deal; that took very little time to fix). In the second one, one image showed up as the misbegotten box that plagued my earlier attempts (all the other images showed up just fine). Not really a problem since it tool all of two or three seconds to copy and paste the picture back in. I lost a couple of subtitles in the third article getting rid of Related Article links but, again, it took all of two or three seconds to restore each one. I had a bit of fun figuring out how to get rid of the Related Article links but, once I sorted out how to do so, removing them went quickly. There were a few odd reformatting quirks I had to sort out how to deal with but, again, once I worked out how to do it, fixing them was fast and easy.

The only thing I haven't sorted out is how to get rid of the frame outlines in .odt files. The work around I'm using for now is to either also save the file as a .pdf (the frames don't show up when displaying a PDF) or to view it in Print Preview (again, the frames don't show up). I'm not losing sleep over it (in fact, I'm heading for bed shortly).

I'm feeling rather stoked right now (then, again, I'm easily entertained). It now takes much less time to copy/paste a web article into a Writer document. I'm glad I decided to try out LibreOffice in Windows before I ditch Win 7 and Office 2010.

No well done Jeannie I am glad it was you because I wouldn't have gone to all that trouble though I suppose I don't use Libre for much else than making lists of ditties and collections of reference links. So it is a pity you couldn't charge for a fix like that LOL!!

:roflmao: I know you were winding me up. I was just winding back (my sense of humor is just as warped, if not more so, although it's true I don't drink; I simply can't stand the taste of alcohol). 'Tis all good.

I doubt it Jeannie after 45+ years working in the health system you acquire more that warped sense of humour I worked with a individual once who was always calling me a sick puppy and that just about sums me up

I've worked in warehousing in a very red necked environment (power generation and line construction) followed by several years in a convenience store (the cesspool of retail) in a bad neighborhood (known as Noah's Ark since you didn't dare go anywhere except in pairs) on third shift (the shift, according to the trainers, when the slime of society came out from under their rocks). I've seen it all and having a warped sense of humor, along with being part Irish and total bi..., was necessary for survival.

Yes I know what you mean Jeannie and like you I have seen everything from those at the bottom of the gene pool to some very special people. I have been in situations that no one should be put in and even assaulted by those I have had the misfortune to be caring for. The last time was a sucker punch that left me with a bloodied eye and feeling giddy for a week and not only that but this very same individual even struck me with a half brick size piece of granite which I thought had broken my hand at the time. I think what was just as bad was that senior management did next to nothing regarding both incidents.
The insults and threats I could put up with and of course there were times when I felt really good about what I did for folks but unfortunately nursing these days is not seen as it was when I first began my career and it doesn't instil ones faith in humanity on the whole I think we as a species are not terribly pleasant when it comes to being part of what we jokingly call society.
But I must stop ranting at least I am retired now and in hindsight should have done it a long time ago.

Oh yeah, isn't retirement so wonderful? No more dealing with incompetent, lazy, hateful, and/or crooked coworkers and bosses, hateful and/or crooked customers, incompetent, hateful, and/or crooked upper management, lousy working conditions and hours, performance reviews that were really personality reviews (it was amazing how one boos would think you were worthless and another would think you were the best thing to ever come down the pike), corporate kingdoms, etc. I miss all that like I would a root canal with no local anesthesia.

Yes Jeannie I am now doing all the little things I always meant to do and even wanting to take up my woodworking again and gardening etc It's marvellous to e able to get up when you want and not have rush in and hope you aren't faced with yet more of the tedious crap.
During my time I spent 12 years as a Nurse Manager at a local small hospital and eventually had to revert back to an ordinary RN for the last 9 years and I think like you say the total lack of acknowledgment is typical of employment these days.
I can even begin to get to know my grandchildren better too because the shift work I had to do meant very often there were times that I cold not get to see them because of those time constraints.

I am also glad to be out too because the health system itself has gone down the gurgler and has become a top heavy and so targeted on monetary and litigatory matters. But I suppose ewe do have it better than what I can see happens in the US I would despair if I lived there as I see it as a system totally based on monetary gain and that it is so unfair for those who have and those who have not. Frankly I wonder how some of those folks can sleep at night being part of a system that is so what appears to me to be uncaring.
