Copying files by extension - I had to find my own way to do it...

I couldn't find anything on the net to copy only mp3 files from a disorginized and deply folder nested drive. So, I made the software to do it

I ended up with something even more useful then just a program to move mp3 files. It will now copy or move any file extension type from any location to any destination.

You can do the same thing for free using xcopy in a command prompt window I believe. Something like:

xcopy c:\*.mp3 "x:\My Music\" /s/h/r/i/k/e/y

would copy every mp3 file on your C: drive to X:\My Music.

I keep all my music files within one master folder called "Music". If I want to copy all of my music files to another drive I would simply drag that folder over and drop it on it's new location. Same with movie files.

I don't have much call to do what your software does (not to mention it can be done using the xcopy command) so I'll pass on it. Good luck though, hope you sell lots of copies.

Have you done any comparisons between the speed of your program vs the speed of using xcopy? If your program was faster than xcopy then that would be a great selling point.

I tried x-copy and couldn't get it to work at all...maybe it,s just my rusty command-line skills

MY music hard drive was a disaster, with other types of files and endless folders-within-folders. I had copied so many other music collections over the years, and never bothered to organize anything. I never foresaw needing to copy files to the rood of a portable USB drive to play digital-music files in a car.

I never did a comparison of speed between x-copy and the software. But, I set it up to copy MP3 files from a drive of over 20,000 files, of which 8,000 were MP3 or FLAC files. I when out for groceries and when I came back...it was done. I had it move all the files from the source music drive to another folder on the same computer system, then I manually moved the files to the root of the USB drive.
