Copying files takes forever?

I'm trying to copy some files from my USB onto my hard drive, but the progress bar remains at around 98% indefinitely?

It's been like it now for half an hour, i've tried cancelling it and trying again but to no avail.

That usually indicates any of the following:
1) Lots of small little files that are being copied at the last minute - these always take longer to copy than one big file. Just be patient...
2) Thumb drive is starting to go bad
3) Files you're copying are corrupted.

Suggestion (not in any order) :
Just copy a few at a time to see which files are the troublemakers.
Format the USB drive
run chkdsk on the source drive.

The USB is literally brand new, the files are ZIP files though, could that be why it's taking so long?

Well, that narrows it down!

I can't see why the file type would affect the speed - just the size and quantity. :/

Hmmm... Were you trying to format the drive when that happened, or copy files when that happened?

Are you copying from a network drive by any chance? Or is it all on the local drives?
