How to copy ONLY settings & needed REGISTRY data for duel boot system - Win7 has app installations, Win10 no apps - want to use all installed apps in Win7, but run in Win10 .

Seems that the registry has all the necessary info in the Win7 registry and just migrate most/all registry settings into 2nd OS (Win10) - BUT changing the registry FILE/FOLDER info FROM C: TO E: (and any other necessary settings and changes).

They are both C: when current OS, both are E: when not, but for Win10, the files/folders will be on E: drive - same hdd.

Seems just an issue of getting the Win10 registry 'E:' issue 'changed' at copy/migration time.

OR is there something I am really missing here ?

PS: If there are the somewhat rare issue of settings on Win10, I can easily live with that.

Is there a tool that does this with enuf flexibility and detail to let user 'help' ??

TIA !!

In general Windows upgrade installs leave the programs alone. However I'm not sure as to specifics for 10 or program compatibility with 10. For that I suggest that you try our 10 forum. For a dual boot you will likely have to reinstall your programs or clone your windows 7 partition and upgrade one of them. Windows 10 Forums

I tried to do something similar when I had a multi-boot PC running Win9x and Windows NT. Many of the programs worked. But I ran into a nightmare with Visual Studio 6. It not only had registry settings but a bunch of configuration files. No matter how many times I booted to the other OS to make sure the Registry stuff was in sync, the config files I could never get quite right.

I gave up and installed separately on each OS. What you might try is one of those utilities that package up an application with all its settings into a portable bundle. That is if you can find one that supports your apps. But as townsbg says, you are likely to get more on target answers if you post on the Windows 10 sister forum.

Also trying to run on dual OS you could end up with "least common denominator" features or get errors when the older OS sees settings from W10 that it does not understand. Disk space is pretty cheap. Better to "waste" a bit of HD space and save yourself a lot of headaches.
