Core i7 4770K Cooler

Hi all need to find a good i7 cooler for 4770k 3.5ghz "Haswell" CPU after searching a few site's found a

PH-TC12DX recommended for the i7 ??? any forts because I also see this unit is compatible with socket lg775 witch I currently use with a arctic freezer 7 pro rev.2 could I not use this model too?, prob a new tho, or is the ph-tc12dx better

or do u have any better selections

planning to build asus maximus vi formula, i7 477ok 3.5ghz to over clock, 16gb ddr3, don't really wont to go down the water rout

The default "pretty good for overclocking" cooler is this:

There are better coolers, but you pay noticeably more.

why not? its just as easy to replace a stock cooler with an all in one, just have an extra radiator to mount.
You get the best overclocking results with an all in one cooler, and much quicker times to return to idle temps.

If you want to significantly overclock, you may want a more powerful air cooler. Noctua NH-D14 or NH-D15 or NH-U14S, Thermalright True Spirit Power or Phaenteks TC-F14. 4770k get hot. These are all large so you should make sure that they will fit your case and clear the RAM. You could get between 4.2 and maybe 4.5 GHz on these coolers if you get the luck of the draw on the 4770k.

But for a low to moderate overclock, the PH-TC12DX should be fine.

why do I keep herring about " if u get the luck of the draw " when talking about the 4770k ? should I be waiting for issues to be sorted out ???

no 2 cpus are the same. you could get one that will never overclock not even by 1mhz yet you could get another that will allow for a massive overclock as 1.5ghz, or another chip may only give 1ghz.

thats the luck of the draw, theres no manufacturing issue.. they sell you a processor that is sold to you at xxxghz. the fact that you can overclock it is a bonus. if its not a decent overclocker thats just the luck of the draw.
