dammit, i tried to run this little application called Dexpose, its like Mac OS X Expose but for windows (downloaded it from softpedia) the program didn't do anything, and my house was flickering the loading icon, i ctrl+alt +del, and closed the program, now i tried using firefox, and it say

firefox.exe - corrupted file
The file or directory C:\program files is corrupted and unreadable. please run the chkdsk utility.

even though i get the error, the program loads fine, and still runs, tried a few other programs, same problem, I tried accessing program files and it is denying me access.

any suggestions? I was gonna restart the computer, but i thought id ask someone here first. thank you.

Have you run your virus scan and malware programs?
If your HD is clean I would try a restore point or just try reinstalling Firefox.
That of course is after you try and uninstall that program you downloaded.

Restarting should be your first course of action, but I guess that's why we are here too. :)

Go ahead and reboot, and run the chkdsk it recommends. If that does not work, open an elevated command prompt and run sfc /scannow.

Good luck!

the program i downloaded was a standalone , no setup. I got bitdefender, will run that first. hm, will try uninstalling and reinstalling something. Don't you have to have a save a restore point, in order to revert back to it?

First, I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials as a replacement for Bit Defender.

Second, restore points are created automatically, often times without your knowledge. See Shawn's excellent tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html

Hmm, a microsoft Security product is better? Wil look at the restore point tutorial. Should i try rebooting it first? or should i just go do the restore?

I can uninstall programs and install programs still. error still appears when i run the new program i just installed, but it does run and work.

Microsoft Security Essentials is way better than BD, in terms of security.

Before you do anything else, though, you should reboot. It only takes 3 minutes at most, and might solve you issue.

Last known configuration will not make any changes, so even if it works, it will not help you. You need a System Restore to make the changes.

Glad to hear things worked out for you.
I also recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. This is all I'm running live and it is very good and light. Doesn't slow things down like other software.

:D
