Solved Corrupt Winword.exe Alert in Office Pro Plus 2016

System: Windows 7 Ultimate, Office 16 Professional Plus. Office is on 'C' drive; Data files for Office are on different drive. This setup was created during Office 16 install.



Problem: I'm getting an alert when I open a Microsoft Word doc, the alert reads as follows:



"Winword.exe-corrupted file The file or directory C: is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility".



I ran Chkdsk.exe. Chkdsk indicated there were some errors and they were repaired. After restarting, I'm still getting the alert. Please note that I am able to open and save Word files. I'm concerned that the application is going to completely crash. I would like to fix the problem before it gets worse. Any suggestions?

As Samuira asked did you run chkdsk on both drives?

Run the Office Repair Utility to Fix Word 2016

Close Word and any other Office programs. ...
Press the Win+X keyboard shortcut. ...
Choose Control Panel.
Below the Programs heading, click the Uninstall a Program link. ...
Select Microsoft Office from the list of programs. ...
Click the Change button. ...
Choose Quick Repair. ...
Click the Repair button.

@ Samuria: No I only rand chkdsk on Drive C. Will also run on Data drive.

@ Snick: Thanks for instructions on running Office Repair Utility. Will get back with results.

@ Samuria: I continued to run Chkdsk on C drive until Chkdsk no longer launched upon startup. I then checked alert when opening Word and alert was gone. I also ran Chkdsk on Data drive. No errors found. Thank you for your assistance.


Snick: Since problem was resolved by running Chkdsk many times, I didn't run the Office Repair Utility. However, I learned something new regarding the existence of the Repair Utility and appreciate your suggestion.

Quite a few programs in Control Panel, uninstall a program , have change or repair available.
