Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, HP Elitebook 2540, 4GB,Toshiba 1.8"HDD.
PC very slow 1/100 of normal.
May it be that unwanted Windows 10 update has ruined PC?

It started 2 weeks ago when browsing and word document editing became visibly slower.
Word document took few seconds to display typed letters. Then I asked user over phone to close gwx.exe from PC processes list and reply was that problem is fixed.
But few days later computer slowed down to 1/100 of normal speed and seemed not to start at all because at start up after BIOS display, screen remained blank for 5-10 minutes. Safe mode also failed. So it was considered not working at all which likely was wrong.
Now PC is on my desk running system restore to previous date, started from W7 system disk.
To start restoration from system DVD took 15 minutes between every steps and now system is restoring for 24 hours already. System speed is 1/100 of normal I guess.

In between I checked HDD with MHDD and memory and there was no fault. I swapped HDD from other PC and it started normally. So my conclusion was that something is sitting on this HDD, which slows PC down to 1/100.

Considering that starting PC from system disk was also very slow ...
May it be a corrupted HDD AHCI driver? Virus or unsuccessful W10 update?
Any other suggestions?

Hi,
Check out some of the most recent posts for up to date lists,
http://www.sevenforums.com/general-...windows-10-upgrade-updates-windows-7-8-a.html

Use safe mode with networking if need be to access the system.

So - is the Windows 10 a final grave stone of MS Windows?
It is not acceptable for business users that their PC is crashed by one wannabe unwanted MS w10 update.

Present situation is that PC is already 32 hours restoring it's 2 week earlier w7 state and final result is still not predictable.

Hi,
Well I believe it's way too early to tell how 10 will end up being received by the masses,

I believe it's 2 parts,
1-being a wakeup call for people still receiving auto updates :)
2-being whether the 10 upgrade goes well or not.

I tested win-10tp for nearly 10 months to this day I still do not see any viable enhancements.
So needless to say I will not be doing any upgrading of any win-7 keys for sure.

Apparently Windows 10 update crashed PC

After several Windows 7 restore trials there finally appeared a screen
"We couldn't install Windows 10
We have set your PC back to the way it was before you started installing Windows"

And that was the last screen after this there was just a blinking underscore.

When user denies w10 installation, it it's not known if user accidentally started W10 installation or was it pushed installation with some Windows update.

It doesn't automatically start for you, if you update with Windows Update you should get GWX.exe. It must be a corrupt AHCI driver.
