Hello All,

I have problem with shortcuts from programs from encrypted unmounted partition.
Windows 7 automatically corrupt them when do not have access to their localization/partition, when partition is not mounted.
Does is possible to disable in Windows checking shortcuts localization and not corrupt shortcuts ?

Thank You.

What do you mean by "corrupts"?

Windows don't corrupts anything when the target file is missing, but you can't obviously use it to access the program. It's possible that the icon doesn't shows at all (being replaced by a generic one) and if you use it, Windows will offer to delete it. But after re-mounting the encrypted volume, it should return to normal.

Thank You very much for answer, exactly shortcut lost own icon that's what I mean called this "corrupt", and windows set generic default windows white blank icon, of course this shortcut is still working fine but miss only program icon right.
When I mount the drive/partition with this program nothing change, it change but after very long time (few hours) the icon is back to normal I think when windows rebuild their iconcache.dat itself.

But is it possible to disable in windows to setting this icon to generic when partition with this program is not mounted ? maybe some Windows service is responding for this ?

Edit
I found solution, I extracted icon from program exe file and copy it to C drive, then change shortcut icon from this C drive copied icon.

I don't think it's possible to prevent the icon going generic if the pointed program becomes unavailable, at least in a sure way that doesn't depends on the internal (unreliable) icon cache. The underlying real problem that causes that is that the icon itself is read from the shortcut target when needed, but if the drive is unmounted, that will fail, hence the default icon. On reconnection, the very same happens, until Windows "feels like" reading the icon again, it will remain with the default one.

The solution would be to provide an icon that is always under an available drive, regardless of mounting/unmounting, and make the shortcut use that for the icon (only the icon) instead of the real target on the truecrypt thing.
What is the target of the problematic shortcuts? Programs? Documents?
