im currently updating the drivers, I cant do a clean install tho cause i can only load on safe mode, otherwise it BSODS
i should also point something that imo is relevant: i tried installing windows 8 on both of my hard drives i own, and it shows the same problem. I think this means that i've got an hardware problem? because the problem with this pc started when there was a thunder and the power stopped for a while, maybe the mobo is damaged or something?

First, please fill out your system specs as detailed as possible. You can click 'My System Specs' in the lower left corner of your last post and there will be a link to update system specs. If you would like to see what we need, click My System Specs at the bottom of this post and see mine. If you need help with them, this will help http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html Also, if you have a OEM computer, please include the Manufacturer and the model number and whether it is a laptop or a desktop. Knowing what hardware we are dealing with will help us help you.

Please go into BIOS and tell me the value of your +12V, +5V and the +3.3V as well as the CPU temp and the Motherboard temps.

Have you run all the Virus scans and other programs Kookat suggested? If not, please do so first. All of your voltages look OK. If you are overclocking anything, please set everything back to default levels.

First, I would like you to run Seatools, Seagate's diagnostic program,to check your hard drive. Please run the short drive self test and the long drive self test. Please run Seatools for DOS. It will get better results.

Next, please run memtest86+ to test your ram for errors. Please run it for a full 8 passes. It has to be run for 8 passes all at the same time. It requires 8 complete passes to fully test the ram for errors. I would recommend you use version 4.20. If you want to run it from a USB Flash drive, download the pre configured usb installation download, otherwise download the zip file which contains an ISO file which needs to be burned to a CD, not copied, but burned with an image burning software or the Windows image burning tool, which is included in your installation. It will take several hours to run the 8 passes. It's best left running overnight. If you get an error, you can stop the test right then by pushing escape.

If at any time you don't understand what the instructions are, or have any questions, please feel free to ask. I don't mind at all.

Also, please run sfc /scannow the system file checker to check for corrupted or missing files. Pleas use option 2 here http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

Run the virus scans first, then run the sfc /scannow. We want it to say there are no integrity violations at the end. If it found some files, even if it said it can't fix them, reboot and run it again. Do this at least 3 times or until it says what we want it to say.
Run the short and long test with Seatools.

How long can you run Prime95? ( http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100352-hardware-stress-test-prime95.html ) Keep CPUz and a temp monitoring program open while running it. I want to know the highest temp of your CPU before you quit it or BSOD, that means you will have to watch it closely. But, we have to go through the process to find out which component is bad.

That will tell us the computer has no Virus, the hard drive is OK, the system files are not the problem. So, what's left? It leaves the Ram, Motherboard, CPU (if you BSOD) and the PSU. Of that list, the CPU is the least likely to be bad, In normal circumstances, the ram is most likely to be bad. But because of the bad Thunderstorm, the PSU is the most likely. If an electrical surge damaged anything, it went through the PSU first. What Brand, Model and size PSU do you have? If it continued through the PSU it could have damaged everything, but the motherboard is the most likely. That's just my opinion. There is no test for the motherboard, It is the process of elimination. So, we next need to check the ram. memtest86+ is the only reliable ram test. Even if it bsods, we can see if any errors show up first.

Hardware testing is difficult and very time consuming, but it is the only way we have to test it. There are other ways, but it requires extremely expensive equipment, which none of us have. So, we go through the process. It is simply the process of elimination. You could start replacing one component at a time until you find the problem component. But, you will spend a great deal of money doing that. If you are going to do that, I would recommend building a newer computer. I would see if you have some friends with an extra PSU that would be able to swap with you if it comes to that. It is much better to do that than buy another one just to try. The same with other things, like the graphics card.

Several errors? 6317 so far. Replace the ram. That is at least most of you problems. Your specs say you have Corsair ram. Corsair has a lifetime warranty on their ram. They will replace it. But, that means you will be without a computer for 3 weeks or so. so, you can replace the ram yourself or buy new ram. It's entirely up to you, but whatever you do, get a kit of ram rather than individual sticks. A kit is tested to work together where individual sticks are not, and in some cases won't.

Yes, it is possible, but read above where I said you need a matched Kit if you are going to run more than 1 stick. You will only get a matched kit if you send in both sticks.

You're very welcome. But, when you buy the kit, run memtest86+ again. I always do for 8 full passes any time I get new ram. Even new ram can come defective. Let us know how things go for you. The ram could have been your problem, but it is also possible you have more than just the one problem.

Also, when you think your problems have been fixed, please mark this thread as solved.
