I have a folder in my documents full of music samples to make songs out of and I am trying to move the folder to an external hard drive and every time I do I get the following error "Could Not Find This Item" "This Is No Longer Located in C:\<username>\My Documents\Music_maker\ Verify the item's location and try again"

the folder and files are definitely there because I am able to play every single music sample in Windows Media Player just fine, I am just unable to move these files because of that error message that constantly keeps preventing me from moving them, same error for deleting the folder... right click properties shows it is there and it shows a folder size (832MB) but that error STILL exists for no reason at all!

the folder I am trying to move is called strictly_80s and the error seems to happen with EVERY subfolder in the Music_maker folder!

I'm also experiencing this problem, since a windows update last night, will try a system restore later and see if that resolves the problem, any other thoughts would be welcomed

I also have the same problem after yesterdays update. I get the "Could not find this item" when trying to rename a folder or move any file. It also ask "Try again" and it does change after trying again but its a nuisance having the prompt pop-up every time I want to move or rename a file. I did a system restore prior to update and everything was fine. Of course after it did the recovery it downloaded the update again and has the same problem. Any help or info would be appreciated.

Have solved it, if you system restore to an earlier point before the update, then immediately go to windows updates and hide the offending update it will not install it.

Hope this helps

It would be useful for future reference if you could post what update caused the problem.

I really don't see that as a soultion by not allowing an important update. It seems its only causing problems to some people. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on two notebooks and I only have the problem on one. They both are HP but completely different models.

I also prefer keeping updates but once in a while these weird issues appear. Had the identical problem in 2010 after an update and now again three days ago. I have W7 Pro 64-bit.

I resolved it by applying FolderFix from Guide: Fix Windows Folder Renaming (Could Not Find This Item) | Tech Jawa

Apply the reg applicable to yr version of W7 and all's well again.
