Solved Could updates cause problems with Yahoo webmail?

Hi guys

On the 17th this month I started having difficulties with my Yahoo webmail. I couldn't log in at all, whether using Chrome, IE or Firefox. I noticed there was a Windows update on that date and carried out a system restore. This worked for a few hours, but the problem returned, apparently after another Windows update. I went through a cycle of system restores (which worked) followed by more updates and eventually found myself unable to go back beyond the original update on the 17th. From this time I have been constantly unable to log in to Yahoo.

Could you log in after the system restore? What is the error message you get while attempting to log in? Are you having difficulties on any other websites?

Hi Maarten, thanks for responding.

Each time, I could log in for maybe a couple of hours, then it would stop again. Each time it stopped, I would check the system restore log and it would appear that another Windows Update had appeared. This is what made me connect the log in issues and WU. The message I see (in Chrome) is a generic 'This webpage is not available', nothing else. I have no issues with any other website, just my Yahoo webmail.

No problem. I'm not a specialist, just trying. It seems indeed that it would be an update. Could also be a problem with your IP-setting that just comes up "thanks" to an update. Have you tried to flush your DNS etc?

A good idea is to go to your Command Prompt as Administrator and type the following commands:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release all
ipconfig /renew all

After this, could you tell me the first three digits of your IPv4-address? (it should be states somewhere in the output after the commands) If it's 192, you're behind a router. I don't think it has a lot to do with it, but to be sure the update isn't interfering with some router-packets, could you try to connect the computer directly to your internet-connection and try again? A reboot or the previous commands after reconnecting could be helpful.

Maarten, you're a hero! The command prompt stuff seems to have done the trick, and I'm now able to log in to Yahoo webmail again. Hopefully that will be the end of the problem.
