Counter Strike Source - Huge Drop In FPS

Hey guys. I've been playing CS:S for about 6 months now. 2 months ago I upgraded to Windows 7. Since then, CS:S has had huge drops in fps, lowering my gameplay. I can't play Zombie Escape maps anymore because I can't even turn corners. Surfing is ok, but I always end up near last after every game. And Gun Games.... omg. I can't even get one kill.

I updated all my drivers (sound, graphics), and that seemed to help a little, but not much. I checked windows updates and all it has are language packs.

Anyone know a fix for this? ...Other than going back to Windows XP

I'm running Windows 7 32-bit, build 7100
Video Card - Nvidia GeForce 7800 GS
2gb of RAM Memory
AMD Sempron 3100+, 1.8GHz Processor. Single Core.
DirectX 11 (doubt it, it's most likely 10, but that's what dxdiag.exe says)

Thank you.

possibly due to your processor. while 1.2Ghz is the minimum for XP, the recommended speed to run on vista, is higher. somewhere in the 2.5Ghz range. the same goes for 7.
it wouldnt be a bad idea to upgrade, the rest of your system is more than capable to run CS:S on windows 7.

Hmmm... Well, I'm going to buy Windows 7 anyway. I'll be buying a new computer soon from i buy power at ibuypwer.com I love that site. You can customize a gaming computer for a great price!

Edit: I went and downloaded the Vista driver for my graphics card. That helped a lot. No lag on surfing servers, but still a bit laggy on Zombie Escape maps.

+1 ibuypower pwns.
if you can find an app called clockgen, it is possible to OC your sempron to 2.2Ghz. I used to have the same one, worked like a charm for a while too. then my friend blew it up, by trying to OC it to 3Ghz .... (2.2 is perfectly stable)

clockgen is pretty handy for older amds. it's just you have to hunt for it, as their official site no longer offers it. (dont know why)

Yeah, I've known NewEgg for a few months. I'm not putting any money into the computer I have right now, it's 5 years old. There would be less hassle to buy a new computer.

...Which I'm going to do at Gaming Computers and Gaming Notebooks - Buy a new Gaming PC - iBUYPOWER

-ps; I may be a nub on this site, but I know my way around msot computer related things ;D including where to buy.-

if i can get clockgen to actually download (keeps bogging out) i'll see about making a little tut for you. only problem is my current cpu explodes when i try any type of OC, but i think, for pictorial purposes, it should be fine ;)

do you know the model # of your motherboard? (kind of a requirement)

google. your best friend.

im seeing the same model # for a desktop and a laptop (weird). your using a desktop, i assume.... if it's a laptop,
i wouldnt even consider OC'ing, as it would more than likey overheat.... A LOT.

google tells me the pll is CYP635039.....
took 10 minutes just to find that out.

Once you get your PLL model selected, click on "Read Clocks", then open the "PLL Control" window. Notice that the number of sliders depends on the PLL model features. Some models also only support a predefined set of frequencies, and therefore may show a "step-by-step" slider.
Once your new clocks are choosen, clock on "Apply Selection" to make them effective. If you want to come back to current values, click on "Reset Selection".
The "Clocks" window shows the current clocks in real time. It is independant from the selection window, so it will tell you if the new clocks were really applied.
Notice that the CPU clock may vary if the CPU uses a clock modulation mechanism, like C1E or Speedstep. Load your system if you want the CPU to run at full speed.
   Warning
BE CAREFUL. if you do try this, be warned, it can brick things. if your computer freezes when setting the clocks, just wait a minute. if it doesnt respond after a few seconds do a hard shut down (hold the pwr button). when you reboot, it should be fine, as this method isnt permanent, unless you set it to OC at boot up (dont set that)
