Couple different problems: One with AIM 7 and another with Windows 7

The computer I have is a Compaq Presario CQ62-228DX Notebook.

So yesterday I started having problems with AIM 7 loading up. As soon as I try to sign in to AIM 7, the computer freezes up on me and I have to re-start my computer. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program and tried to sign back in to AIM and the problem still persists. I've never had problems with this program doing this before so I'm not sure as to what to do now. If anyone knows a way to fix this, I'd appreciate it.

Also, when I close my computer in order for it to go into sleep mode, it does not end up doing this and instead stays on to the point where the computer will overheat and then shut itself down. I've never had problems like this with putting it into sleep mode before so I'm unsure as to what would be causing this. I'm not sure if this qualifies as a Windows 7 problem or not but it is still a problem for me. If anyone can help me out w/ these issues, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I've only had this computer for about a year and have had many problems with it involving mainly screen freezes among other things so these issues are just adding to my frustration. Any help that I could get from anybody on this forum would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. I redownloaded AIM 7 and its working now so who knows why it didn't before when I'd uninstall and reinstall it.

The problem with the battery overheating apparently somehow fixed itself from me doing system restore I think. It's fixed for now. I'll just have to wait and see how long this fix lasts.
