My CPU fan is noisy so I open the Task Manager to see what process uses a lot of ressources and then the fan quiets down instantly. But, when i stop the TM it starts to be noisy again. Like it needs the TM to figure out that it doesn't need to go full speed.

I found this thread: Laptop fans run loud until I open task manager (virus?) - CNET Computer help Forums I have the exact same problem but no solution apparently.

Here is a program that will allow you to see what is running. You might find something using it.
Is the Task Manager you are referring to the one built into Windows 7?

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

It still sounds like a infection to me.
What anti virus program are you using?

I have asked a friend to take a look at your problem.
I will also keep looking to see if I can find something.
It might take a while to find your answer.

I already had this installed actually and it has the same effect as Task Manager. (when I launch it, fan quiets down)

edit:
I just tried something else called Bill2's process manager and this time I found the process, it's called igfxupdate and apparently is a recent threat:
Igfxupdate.exe forces cpu to load @ 100% - Microsoft Community
http://sys7em.com/MyDiary/151-Remove-nasty-igfxupdateexe-virus-from-your-windows-7
So this tricky worm recognized Task Manager and Process Explorer and stopped itself when it was launched. I have no idea where I got this from though :|
Anyway, the problem seems to be solved.

Yes I posted this link a few minutes ago already in my previous post (and confirmed I had been able to remove that thing)

I'm still somewhat puzzled. Any information might be helpful to others that run into this problem.
What anti virus were you using when you got this infection?
Did MAM, Eset, or Defender Off Line show this infection in their scan logs or quarantine logs? Did you update all three of those programs before using full scans.
Did Task Manager and/or Processor Explorer show this infection running?
The reason I ask is; it is very odd that 5 great programs did not see or find this
igfxupdate.exe virus running.

MSE

I installed and/or updated those three and none of them could find this malware.

Did Task Manager and/or Processor Explorer show this infection running?
Abslutely not, that's what I found very ingenious in this malware, it hid itself from those two programs and fortunately for me it couldn't hide itself from Bill2's Process Manager.
The reason I ask is; it is very odd that 5 great programs did not see or find this
igfxupdate.exe virus running.

Mind, that when I ran MEM and ESET, I had Process Explorer running which may (or may not) have made the task to identify this malware more difficult. But Defender Offline couldn't find it either.
