CPU goes through the roof when syncing on iTunes

Download it to a known location and execute the install as administrator if possible.

Attemped to run, got this:
"This operating system is not supported by the processor driver".

I sent an email to AMD to ask if they have or plan to have driver support for Win7 any time soon. I'll post their response when I receive it for posterity.

The website says it only supports XP and earlier....maybe I should try running it in virtual XP?

Tried it. It installed, but it didn't do anything.

I've got the same system and the same issue. When I connect my iPhone and it's trying to sync the System Processes will shoot up and then I will get an error saying the disk is no longer available, the same is for any USB drives I want to use.

The USB drivers are all fine...the only thing coming up funky is "Other Devices -> Coprocessor".

I had this same unknown Coprocessor device on my system.

It is most likely an ACPI device. If you look at the device properties under details it probably shows something like: ATK0110.

Look for an ACPI driver from your computer or motherboard manufacturer.

Unfortunately, I'm having similar problems with syncing my iPhone with iTunes on my system, even after I installed the correct driver for the Coprocessor.

I've decided, at least for the remainder of the school year, that the upgrade to Windows7 has been more trouble than it's worth, so I reinstalled Vistax64. And, I'm happy to report, my CPU is now back to normal.

Thanks to everyone for trying to help. I might try it again in another 6 months or so, when MS and all the third party software providers have worked out more of the bugs.

I don't know if you use itunes for purchasing music or not, but if your just transferring music I recomend trying winamp. I use it over windows media player which is only used for video, but vlc works better or mplayer. I find that winamp is easier and simple. But personally I just like a search option and a single playlist. =)

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to drop in with a quick update. I reinstalled Vista and had different but similarly frustrating problems (namely, software installation was failing 80% of the time!). So, once I finished up the semester, I decided I'd try my luck with Win7 again.

Once again, I did a clean install and immediately had the same high CPU usage and freeze ups. I called MS support and, long story short, we seem to have somehow "accidentally" fixed the problem which troubleshooting. Here's what we did:

1) Shut down PC, unplug all 3rd party hardware (external hard-drive, printer, speakers, etc)
2) Turn on PC, go to device manager
3) Disabled Display adapters, DVD/CD-ROM drives, network adapters, and sound/media adapters (disabled each individually, restarted after each, CPU okay after each)
4) Shut down PC, plugged all 3rd party hardware back in, restarted.

Somehow between resetting the devices and unplugging/replugging all hardware, the problem has mysteriously vanished. I want to wait a few days before I say it's permanently fixed, but so far, so good (knock on wood)!

Oh, I did have a BSOD a little while ago, but that appears to have been an isolated incident.

I'll post again if there are any further updates to be made.

Itunes blows. there's gotta be something better for using Ipods (the only Apple product own) that's designed for windows. I sync my Ipod using the media player in ubuntu, and it takes about 1/3 as long to fill up a 16 ipod nano that's formatted for ext3 than it does in FAT using itunes

Sorry, folks, but unfortunately this solution did NOT end up working permanently. I tried for another month to solve the problem then finally just gave up and bought a new PC. Hope y'all have better luck with it than I did.

I am now going to try updateing the chipset drivers, as this seem to fix the problem on gigabyte motherboards.

Flashed bios, done a Microsoft hotfix, uninstalled bonjour.

ALL IS NOW WORKING!!!!!
