I'm currently trying to get a Tesla 2075 into a Dell Precision t5500. Due to power constraints I'm having to remove one of the two processors from the machine.

(Intel® Xeon® Processor E5620)(Windows 7 Enterprise X64)

In doing this is windows going to function properly afterwards?

I read in another thread on this forum about replacing a single processor and it being detected, but i can see where removing on completely might cause an issue :huh:

Any help is greatly Appreciated.

I do not know if your processor will function properly. I would think the greatest help someone could give you is... get a proper power supply unit. WHats the point of using a $2,000 video card in a xeon dual processor system if you have to take out one of the CPU's? Is that addition by subtraction? do you work for the government per chance?


Sorry... we were all thinking it.

I very much doubt it. If the board is designed for 2 CPUs, then it will require both of them in order to function correctly. Insufficient power can cause damage to both the motherboard (due to it trying to draw extra current through unintended routes) and the PSU itself.

The question is: Why are you trying to shoe-horn this motherboard into a Dell enclosure (and then presumably using the Dell PSU)? Which brings me to another point, viz Dell PSUs are often proprietary units with, in many cases, non-standard wiring and only of sufficient capacity to power the model in which it is installed.

It is a dell Precision T5500 machine, that when ordered had extras added to it (the extra proc, non standard vid car)
The issue is, its not a proprietary powersupply (standard size and connectors) but dell dosen't support any third party manufacturers in their warranty.

In working with our rep with dell, I was told the 2075 would work, then after receiving it and trying to install i found it draws way to much power. They dont offer the Tesla 1060 because it is now out of production.

I'm looking to get this computer to a point where it can run Ansys physics simulations, in less time then current (several hours) And i would like to avoid purchasing a 10K+ machine for basically a power supply upgrade to an existing machine that still has 1,100 days of warranty left.
