Solved CPU temperature, which is most accurate?

maybe this belong in software section but I have a couple of program here to test CPU temp in windows.

- core temp
- PC meter
- Hwinfo64
- real temp
- throttlestop

core temp shows about 8-10 more C than pc meter on average during idle.. while hwinfo64 and real temp all have their own CPU temp.. which do I know is most accurate lol

using coretemp and hwinfo, same temp values as real temp. needed core temp for gadgets so i disabled pc meter, false reporting by 5-10C.

I get about the same for core temp as realtemp. I use the core temp gadget for day to day and realtemp for overclocking.

To measure the temperature, the application reads out a offset from TTJMAX and then subtracts it from TJMAX to arrive at a temperature. TJMAX varies from processor to processor so the application needs to know the TJMAX. Applications will display different temperatures if they assume a different TJMAX.

Personally, I prefer core temp. It seems to be pretty accurate. Real temp is another option, but my particular system has issues with real temp. That's not true for most. Either one is usually accurate. HW Monitor, I don't use as prsonally I don't trust it. others do. It's really which you feel most comfortable with and which you feel gives you the most accurate readings.

I had been using RealTemp 3.00. When I found 3.70, the new one reported 8C higher across all cores.

thanks for all the feedback guys.

@gigagiggles, I had that issue with PC meter and All cpu meter gadget, PC meter version .1 had same temperature as core temp but after I update it to .2 or .3, it's temperature dropped by 5-10C. my x9000 CPU overclocked from 2.8 to 3.6ghz was as low as 15C during idle, which is highly unlikely LOL

Try another tool, such as HWInfo64.
