We're going to need a lot more info in order to give any kind of useful results. Are you planning to upgrade just the CPU? If so, you will be very limited, and would be wasting money. If you want to upgrade to a new CPU and motherboard, what did you have in mind?

I was looking to just upgrade my cpu, but, if you think it's not worthwhile what would you suggest?
I'm clueless.

I'd suggest moving to the 1155 socket, and then picking the processor that best fits your needs and budget. Your current socket has been phased out.

I would say if you're looking for any worthwhile upgrade, forget the processor and go GPU. To this day I don't get everyone's infatuation with CPU's being the heart of systems, ESPECIALLY for gaming. Throw a single-core Celeron or an i7 3960X paired with the same GPU and watch that framerate... do nothing. Now throw even a step-up GPU in there and you instantly get a marginal, noticeable performance increase. Plus the PCIe standard is awesome because eeeeeverything's compatible with it, unlike CPU sockets being changed every year (I'm sure to help play on the fact that everyone still thinks the CPU does everything, even though that hasn't been the case for over a decade with most tasks users carry out).

Anyway, sorry for the rant but I'd definitely go ahead and grab yourself a new graphics card haha. The 5870's quite a capable card, but if you're just looking for more screaming performance it'll be worth it to go with a 7xxx series or- since you've got an Intel setup anyway- I'd grab a GTX 670 or 680 (depending on your budget). Your CPU is pretty high-end anyway man, no need for a big upgrade there.

Okay which one?
That's up to you. There are hundreds of quality socket 1155 motherboards out there. Pick one from a reputable brand (I recommend Gigabyte, Asus, or Intel) that fits your needs and budget. Then pick the fastest processor that fits your needs and budget.

Or, as mentioned above, just focus on the graphics card for now, which can be moved to a new system down the road as well.

I was told that if I buy an SSD, to put my game just on that drive?

Which SSD is good?

SSD's are usually used with the OS and a few applications/games that will fit. The rest of your data would go on another mechanical drive.

The I7 930 overclocks very well so upgrading your CPU is probably a waste of money as pointed out previously. Most games are GPU intensive. A Radeon 7950 would be a decent choice using the same two GPU power connectors you're using now, but overall, it uses less power at idle and under load. Check out anandtech.com under the "Bench" heading and compare your card to the 7000 series Radeons (assuming you're staying with AMD). Good Luck.

An SSD is an excellent choice and I wouldn't run my OS without one. But, it will not make your game play better, it will make it load faster but the play will be the same.

Hi I purchased an [FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica][SIZE=-1]Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 DirectCU II Top Graphics Card (4GB GDDR5, PCI Express 3.0, DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI, Display Port, Nvidia 3D Vision Surround but, it was DoA so they sent an other that was also DoA, so I purchased an EVGA GTX 670.
The EVGA 670 was not better than my 5870, there was absolutely no improvement, in my gameplay. EVGA Technical Support said it was a software issue without elaborating.
i purchase a Z77 board and a i7 3770K, just to see if it was okay or not.
Can any body help me with this, to see why tyhere's no improvement?
