CPU upgrade, will it work?

Hey Guys,

I have an Optiplex 745 with an E6400 cpu. I was wandering if an E7500 cpu would fit and work with the motherboard. I have tried to google this many times however I have had no luck and I need a confident answer as I'm on a very tight budget so cannot really afford to make a mistake.

That's a shame. May I ask why it is that it will not work? (I'm not saying that your'e wrong or anything BTW, purely curious.)

Back in the 386, 486 and early Pentium days one could change the CPU merely by setting various jumpers on the motherboard [but only as specified in the manual]. Later computers have very few jumpers and the BIOS is coded to recognize a CPU and work accordingly, very little in the way of the CPU can be changed. Main thing is to get the manual for the motherboard and go with what it says, pay attention the revision or version number printed on the board.
