Cpu usage

Hello! I have a intel core 2 duo at 2.66 ghz processor and when i install windows the pc works good But next day is slowing down and the processor monitor gadget shows me 60% usage. I don't understand why it is slowing ! Can anyone Help me ? P.S: I forgot about telling you i'm not english or american i am a romainian not a gipsy and sorry for the words what i don't write correct! Thanks!

hi and welcome to this excellent forum .. how much RAM do you have? if you did a clean install and still have not many programs installed, im guessing you only have 1gb of ram.. that is just normal.. i have 2gb on my laptop and it takes 40% on standby..

why you ask? it is because 7 just allocates memory differently from xp ( i have no experience on vista so i would not comment on it ).. if you usually check you task manager on xp, you would notice that the cpu graph always fluctuates while the RAM is on steady note.. in 7, it is the opposite.. the cpu graph is steady while the RAM fluctuates from time to time.. on my understanding (dont quote me on this for i could be wrong ), it is because this setup affects power consumption.. you see, processors require more electricity than RAM.. 7 makes it so that the processor is rarely used and the RAM is given more priority resulting in high resource usage.. but that is just fine.. if you need more processing power, it is only then that the cpu is utilized resulting in lesser electrical consumption..

but then again, dont quote me on this.. this is just that i noticed and from my personal experience

hi michaelluciano, and welcome to sevenforums,

we don't care if you're a gypsy or not, and your english is very understandable.

try ctrl-alt-del or ctrl-shift-esc to bring up task manager. check the processes tab - here you can see the programs or processes using your cpu.

what is using your 60%?

i live in iran so i cant write exactly what i wanna tell U
but ihave the same problem
system idle process use 90% of my cpu right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what should i do????

look at task manager to see what is using your cpu.

if you click on the cpu column, it will sort the list for you.

make sure 'show processes from all users' box is ticked.

post a screenshot.

If your PC was running OK one day and really slowed down the next I'd check it for a virus besides taking the suggestions of the posters above me.

english is not a problem here. just write it the best you can. not all of us here speaks fluent english (me included) and some are born in a country where english is not the first language.. you are lucky that you can speak english.. atleast you know 2 languages.. your native language and english.. some only know english it is just that this forum speaks english that you have a hard time expressing your thoughts.. if this was written in your language, we would be the one apologizing for the not so fluent sentences
