CPU working "overtime"

I have tried to find some information about my problem on this forum, but I have had no luck...
Here is my problem: I have used Win7 for a long time, and I have reinstalled at leas 3-4 times because of "bluescreen" -- now is there another issue that drives me nuts. The sound of the fan on full speed all the time, and the fact that the system started some few days ago to work very slow.... I have found that there is a process called "searchFilterHost.exe" used by System that are "killing" my computer.. I have tried to end the process, but it just restart the next second. See the screenshot, and you will see the process - as well as the cpu's are on 100% while the ram is about 56% usage -- the "searchfilterhost.exe" is all the time using about 50% of all cpu capasity - so when using other software the computer is soooo hot and overworked... Is there any solution to get this process closed ? and alsom what does it do ? most important, could I just delete the file in the folder of windows just to stop it ?

Never go deleting system files by hand!

You can turn off the search service or turn off indexing on your drives.

OR you can let it go for several hours (probably across a few days) and it SHOULD settle down to being unnoticable, but it is initially going to index all your drives for instant search capability.

I have to say it IS an annoying thing to have to put up with the first week after install. I wish they would have made that service a lot more "background".

See if this works...

Open Windows Explorer and right-click the hard drive icon, select Properties and click on the General tab. Disable Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching. Wait for the hard drive activity to stop, then repeat for any other drives.

Next go to Start > Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services. Scroll down to Indexing Service and double click it to open its Properties. Click the Stop button and then change the Startup Type to Disabled. Click OK, close down all programs and reboot.

you seem to have a problem with the windows search feature.

if you want to disable it completely, type services.msc into your searchbox on startmenu, scroll down to 'windows search' and set it to disabled. this will kill your searchbox!

you can try repairing, by going to control panel >> find and fix problems (under system and security) >> view all (on left hand side) >> search and indexing >> next >> search or indexing is slowing down my computer

that may help - hope so!

OR you can choose which folders to include in the search index - goto control panel >> view by large icons >> indexing options >> modify >> choose your own folders or advanced >> file types >> you choose which ones

I'm really curious...why block out the username? Has a super unique name to identifiy you with, and your master password to the world? Why not just hide the column in preferences...?

"logicearth" -- hehe based on your name is there no wonder you ask Anyway, your thoughts about that has nothing to do with the problem -- just being careful perhaps
Problem is solved - as for now at least.

It is a valid point, though. Since you have Show processes from all users checked, by totally blanking out this column you have removed vital information from your post. If you don't want this information to show, then simply blank out your name, as shown in the example below:

These images are identical with the exception that I have blanked out my user name in the second one. By leaving the entries marked SYSTEM and LOCAL SERVICE etc. as they are, we can identify much more easily where we need to look in order to resolve a problem.

As you can see, there is more information in either of the 2 above images than there is in this one where I have blanked out ALL user names regardless of whether it is my name or not.
