What would be the better CPU to buy because I'm building another system "Athlon ll X 4 640" or the i3 540?

Here are the Passmark benchmark numbers, for what they are worth:

AMD: 3489
Intel: 2821

The AMD might be a little cheaper too. That kinda fits in with the standard opinion that AMD is very competitive in the lower price ranges.
