Check that either in the bios or in a program that start with Windows, that no cpu throttling is happening.

(Commonly called Speedstep, Cool n Quiet or things like that in the bios.)

Is the crackling sound occasional on some songs? because I think windows 7 just messed up a lot of my music because if I drag them on something like a Blackberry, they carry on it as well and crackles like it does on the computer.... sigh.

If it crakles on the Blackberry it means the noise is embedded in the MP3 files and not generated by the PC's sound card on playback.

Got the same problem, tried switch to maximum perfomance in batter options, installing srs sandbox audio 1.9, realtek drivers 2.50, 2.20, 2.19, 2.18 and Windows default drivers. Laptop Asus x50sl. With Vista32drivers sound crackle becomed less noisy but still annoying. I dont have any boost or CnQ in bios.

Crackle increases when i'm speaking on skype + winamp playing.

Make sure you've updated drivers far all wired & wireless network connections.

You can always download the DPC latency checker (non intrusive, doesn't even write to the registry) to check the real-time media streaming stats.

Read the docs on this program, it has helped many here.

yeah... must've been a virus that has been intruding my files or something, because I didn't have any bad sectors or any of that. How disappointing.
