Hello webgal318.

Your crashes are caused by avast antivirus.

Uninstall Avast using Avast Uninstall Utility. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download and install those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Intel graphics driver is also failing.

Update it from Intel Download Center.

Get rid of intel rapid storage.

  1. Right click on "my computer" icon and click "manage" on the context menu.
  2. It will open the "computer management" window.
  3. Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
  4. Expand "Disc Drives" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
  5. Select one item under it, right click, uninstall.
  6. Continue the process for all items under "Disc Drives"
  7. Now restart the computer. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate system driver, msahci.sys.
As antivirus failed, Scan the system for possible virus infection.

Free up the startup.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept the restart.
Finally, if possible, plan to update the BIOS, but if you even want to do it, ask us for assistance.

Progress Report: BSOD issues

Hi
I uninstalled AVAST
Installed Microsoft Security Essentials-->full scan-->clean
Installed Malaware Bytes --> full scan--> clean
Searched for and could not find updated graphics driver
Scanned for rootkit--> none found
Burned 32 bit version Windows Defender offline tool--> did not use
Eliminated most startup programs (msconfig) (I did not know it is OK to deselect all until today) Antivirus enabled at startup

RE: BIOS update: Where do I find the latest version.

I use Speccy for PC profile: How do you like it? Is there something better?

Thanks for all your good advice

Ok, you have done a lot, and confessed what you have not done :) Nice.

First let us know if it crashing anymore or not. Apparently it should not, as Avast was the main reason. But if it crashes again (due to graphics), upload the dumps again.

I also use speccy, very nice and handy. But some geeks like HWiNFO.

My husband has a Dell All in One desktop PC with the following OS: Windows Seven Premium 64 Bit and Windows 8. I also own an iPad.
Do some disc checks.

  1. Update your SSD's Firmware (skip it, if it is not a SSD)
  2. Re-seat the sata and power.
  3. Run chkdsk /f/r, following the option two of the tutorial Disk Check
  4. Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.
Scan again for virus.

Disc Defrag.

  • Start > All programs> Accessories> System Tools > Disc Defragment.
Let us know the results. Also, if the MBAM (Pro version I guess) is not the latest version, Upgrade it.

It it does not work, we are to take a different root.

Seatool for dos stopped at 91%

I have done the following

Ran disk check (very long time running) but finished and PC rebooted normally

  • Reseated the SATA power
  • Reseated the SATA connection
  • Reseated all four memory modules
  • Restarted PC

Upon restart, I burned the Sea Tools program and booted from the CD
I let the program perform the BASIC test then the Long test.
At 91%, the PC froze and I heard a high pitched whine coming from the PC.

I am now rerunning it to see what happens.

Sea Tools results, MBAM scan HDD information

Hi
Thanks for hanging in there with me.

The second test with Sea Tools ran without a hitch--> no problems found
I ran full scan with Malaware Bytes after I checked for updates--> clean
Defragment is set to run once a week.

Info on HDD:
Replaced on November 6, 2011 due to failure of original HDD.

Reformatted drive and re-installed Windows 7, updates, drivers etc. in March 2012 due to recurring BSOD.
Ran fine for several months then STOP errors returned, most likely due to AVAST as you determined.

I have restarted the PC at least five times with NO blue screens.

Unless you can suggest further tests, I would suggest a "watch and see what happens" approach.

Thanks
-Sylvia
