Crash/ Lockup /BSOD/ Q6700 & 5850ATI

Hi everyone. Its 3AM and I still can not find what is wrong.


Prior to my issue.

Early Morning I woke up and Turned on my computer and my 5850 Graphics cards fan was spinning Loudly @ 60% but was just 38C. I Fixed it by enabling the Fan control and took it down to 20% then disabled it and went back to the usual 26% fan speed @ idle. Everything was fine untill 10pm that same day. Did not think much of it.

It was running perfect, no complaints and I was playing LoL " League of Legends" (not a very graphically intense game at all.) We just got done winning a game and we started a new one and then my screen goes black just like shutting off a TV and on the edge of the right of my 1st monitor and left edge of my 2nd monitor there is green/red colors with sharp scratch like images. Then it crashes into a BSOD. " machine check exception" .

After 2 Boots of BSOD I got in trying to rush to play the game >_< instead of trying to figure whats wrong. It went again when playing and on ventrilo. I thought it was the hard drive going dead but after taking everything out I still get a BSOD.

I went as far as trying to use XP SP3 and Ubuntu 9.10 on a new different hard drive to just try and nab the data off the primary os drive but I kept on getting bsod or on Ubuntu , kernel panics for the processor.


I am worried the CPU is dead. I have seen 3 others with 5850 and core i and quad core processors with this issue which worries me it might aslo be the the card.

Disabling C1E or anything that under clocks the processor and stock everything. What could I do?. It does not make sense it crashing out of nowhere

BTW I did have GPU-Z and CCC looking @ Temps with SpeedFAN looking @ CPU Temps all day since I thought it was wierd my graphics fan speed was up to 60%, Since it never goes past 45% on even BFBC2.
Everything perfect for CPU under 45C and graphics under 51C.

Another thing was since I used BFBC2 my graphics card greyed out once so I quit the game and restarted the game and was fine. Did not happen ever since. Along with that I did encode with MS Expression 3 for 12hours some videos with CPU load @ 80% but I under clock to 2.6ghz when I do that to reduce prolonged head.

A lot of things keep pointing to the Processor failing. Please help.

[1 - Novice] How to ask for help with a BSOD problem

Oh woe me, I forgot that part. My bad and I am sorry. I even read that post prior to posting Tews.

I actually can not even boot into anything anymore after my game crashing. Even running Ubuntu try out will fail to work. Is there any way to recover them? Fresh installs will not work either.







Using another PC and they are not exactly interchangeable AMD system

Can you boot to safe mode?

Nope. I was able for two times and those two times I used safe mode and the low resoultion options with F8. Now nothing it either go into 0000001 Error and ask me to repair or start up normally but the screen will turn black but nothing happens since with a slight touch of the power button and it powers off.

The other thing that happens is it will Load the Windows 7 boot logo then stop and do nothing.

I have done the repair with the disk also but now nothing lets me into any OS.

I also saw a lot of this with online games and 64bit but can it really be that?

Well, if you cant even boot into safe mode, I would suspect hardware failure... however you can try formating the drive and then attempt a reinstall, but from the sound of it, I wouldn't hold out much hope....sorry...

How would I know it is directly related to the processor or memory. I doubt the graphics card since its new. I took out the processor to see if anything was gone wrong and did notice 3 spots were a different color for the contacts. In the motherboard it does report "at least to my way of-thinking" that it is in fact working since I get a Temp reading for the CPU @ 35~38 C.

I was able to run memtest but it took to long since I am tired and and have to work in 30mins actually. What about something to test the Processor without any O'S even temporary Live CD like ubuntu.

Well if anyone else can help It would be nice. I figured I should take the hard drive out and get those usb enclosed Hard drives and I will extract the mini dump today later on. I will also switch the card with a 9500 nvidia card and run mem test. I will update this in several hours after I get to my friends house since the computer I am on is used a lot by my family so it causes problems.

Would there be anything else going on wrong? All my system hardware is on my specs. If all else fails I think I will start buying processor and ram. A repair shop would probably pull me for 300$ and best buy? Well I am not sure they are that great, not to be offensive.

It sounds like RAM, CPU, or GPU.

Try borrowing a GFX from a friend and see if it boots.

Also run Memtest for at least 5-6 passes. I know, it takes a while, but it must be done.

OK Finally. I had to pay 60$ for a HDD enclosure but I cant wait for newegg.


There are the dump files, and I hope someone can take a look at what is wrong. I will run mem test now since I got off work although really tired, Ha. I wont rest till this is fixed. I will test graphics also. I will use 2 Nvidia types and a different install if possible. I was @ my friends but I forgot the HDD's Classic mistake of rushing things. At least the Hard drives are all working.

Well memtest has been running for 4hours now with 2 passes and nothings has gone wrong. I will wait a bit more unless someone says otherwise.

I have come to the conclusion I think the processor is fired since I see slight sunspots or grease on the bottom where the pins contact. I am getting a new quad core but with the 45mm. If that does not work, next comes the ram. I did manage to look at the debug log for the mini dump for one of them and it pointed to the bus on the processor not being able to communicate. Please let me know if you look at my mini dumps and see it different.

I am not as as smart so it was hard so please help if you kindly can.
