Solved Crashes after initial Log in

Hi,
2 days ago i did a Repair installation of Windows because SP1 wasn't downloading properly. That problem is fixed and i thought that would solve my bizarre crashes.

I was wrong,
They no longer show themselves as BSODs and most don't get recorded.
The crashes are kind of like an over heat shutdown only my laptop has no excessive heat generated and it try's to start itself back up to just sit at a black screen.

Other times the screen freezes and sound is emitted like a screeching sound.
All my drivers should be up to date, I Haven't checked for any windows updates today.

Possibly a hardware problem? My laptop is only 2 years old

Probably caused by : [COLOR="Red"]memory_corruption[/COLOR] ( nt!MiDeleteSegmentPages+313 )

Usual causes:  Kernel mode driver, System Service, BIOS, Windows, Virus scanner, Backup tool, compatibility

Uninstall Driver Easy:

Start Menu\Programs\DriverEasy

These third-party driver update and installation programs tend to cause issues with Windows 7, the best method is to visit the driver manufacturer's website and download the drivers from their site.

Run Memtest86+ for least 7-8 passes, and preferrly overnight as it can take a while to fully complete.

Test each RAM stick individually, if an error is found then move the same RAM stick into the next DIMM slot and test again, if errors are found for the same RAM stick in every available slot then you have a faulty RAM module. On the other hand, if no errors are found in the next slot or the other slots for the same RAM module, then you have a faulty DIMM slot.

Test each RAM stick and every motherboard DIMM slot available.

Hey Bluebot,
Uninstalled Driver Easy,
And Memtest86 ran the last 3 1/2 hours
7 passes no errors I'm starting to think maybe if the crashes continue it'll be a hardware problem.

My battery doesn't work properly anymore (it holds a charge but it can't be recharge also it doesn't exert any power so my laptop doesn't run if its not connected to the charger)

Don't know if that has anything to do with maybe a power supply failure?

Update ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650:

c:\windows\system32\drivers\atikmpag.sys (8.14.1.6091, 157.50 KB (161,280 bytes), [COLOR="Red"]1/22/2010 8:07 AM[/COLOR])

This driver is rather old, and it is recommend to update this driver to improve stability.

Download Driver > Uninstall Graphics Card Driver (via Device Manager) > Reboot > Run Driver Sweeper > Reboot > Install Latest Driver

Hey Bluebot,

I have never used that Driver Sweeper utility before and i accidentally deleted my whole AMD driver...

I system Restored but i still feel uncomfortable using a program i don't understand how to use. I read the tutorial on it but still confused

Have you downloaded the newer driver? Driver Sweeper will clean up old driver files after a new driver installation, in order to avoid conflicts between the new driver and the old driver files.

I believe so, I downloaded that 2nd link for the Catalyst Control and it set me to the website where I had punched in my current driver info and they game me something else to download.

And then I used the Auto Detect again and it said I was up to date.

Real annoying website AMDs got lol

You may have the latest driver already. Follow these next steps:

Test for any corrupted drivers, by running Driver Verifier for least 24 hours, stop the test if a BSOD occurs before this time frame. Driver Verifier will place stress on the drivers within your system, which will cause corrupted drivers to crash and hopefully be pinpointed.

Verifier ran for 24 Hours with no BSOD

I'm Thinking it's the CPU acting up i'll have to ask a friend to look inside

Hey Blue,

So i took the Fan out and from the fans opening to the CPU's "cover" where it cools was lined with so much dust at first i actually thought it was a filter pad.

there was actually no way for the heat to ventilate/Escape properly!

So cleaned it up checked the thermal grease (Also will need to replace) and my laptop hasn't crashed since.

Kinda sad how i let it go this long without checking.

Your welcome, so it was a overheating issue which means the hardware components were getting so hot, that the computer had to shut down to avoid further damage
