Crashes when playing YouTube videos

Guys, I don't want to Jinx it but I have not crashed since the successful installation of 258.96 and that's without me messing with the Physx Driver because I couldn't access it. I'm so happy that not only has this worked for me but I get to keep my Aero FX which I thought I was going to lose because of this :)

Hopefully It stays working and I can use my Computer for the rest of it's little life hah

Also random but as a side note if anyone needs batteries for this particular computer model don't buy it from Dell, they overcharge like a Motherf***..... go to BattPros.com they're reliable and way less expensive x)

Hey Guys, now given up on a newer driver for the 8700M GT cards on the XPS M1730 as they clearly aren't compatible with the latest drivers. Tried every one from 260.xx onwards. Gone back to 258.96 with hardware acceleration off and I don't get a single crash now. Looks like we are stuck with old drivers I'm afraid!

Hello all - I also have a Dell M1730 and have gone nuts trying to solve this problem. I experience the crashes whenever I try to watch Flash videos from any website: ESPN, CNN, IGN, etc. Here are my system/driver specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
dual NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT: driver 280.26
Direct X 10
Flash Player: 11,0,1,129

I have tried numerous browsers: Firefox, Nightly, IE-32bit, IE-64bit, and nothing seems to work. The screen flickers, goes black, sound continues to play, screen never recovers.

I'm using 258.96 now and I don't have any problems now. Flash videos play without a problem. Switch over and you should be fine. I have no intention of ever updating the video driver again.

Same here. When I noticed that the drivers supposedly fix the Black Screen of Death when watching videos in WMP, I was optimistic that Flash videos were fixed to...

...but no such luck.

I have, about a minute ago, received a Flash update, but i doubt this will help. I'm also a little nervous of even trying

Incidentally, it does NOT fix the Black Screen of Death problem either. Just this minute, I tried an MP4 in Windows Media Player... and it crashed instantly. Before hand, I tried an AVI and MKV file, which worked, but then onto an MP4... instant crash :(

So whoever at nVidia tested this and 'confirmed' it fixed the issue... is utterly wrong. Back to the drawing board, nVidia... we're still waiting for a successful driver that fixes this horrendous problem.

I doubt any one at nVidia even reads these things, especially their own forums. It must be why, after nearly a year of this problem, nothing has been done :(

I've had the same issue on my Dell XPS with dual NVIDIA 8700s.

I've tried all the drivers as everyone above has.

Found that actually it is Flash that is at fault. Downgrading to an older version fixed it:
When I try to watch videos on YouTube my display driver crashes. When I watch videos on other site I have no issues. - YouTube Help
Unfortunately, Chrome has it built in, so I can only use other browsers. But on the upside, I get the newest NVIDIA drivers for my games and don't have to reboot every time a video loads.

I wish it WAS just Flash for me. Die to the fact the Windows Media Player crashes as well, as soon as a video is opened, makes me think it ISN'T purely Flash. Even with the new current Beta drivers, 295.51, there is NO sign of this being fixed. Needless to say, I'm getting really annoyed.

"295.51-notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-international-beta" driver seems to fix this issue for me. No youtube chrashes so far. (XPS M1730 - 2 x 8700m SLI mode)

But if you say so, this means I was just lucky until now :(

You may have just been lucky, yeah. Not every one with these cards has these problems, so you may have been one of the fortunate ones.

However, I have recently changed some registry entries, for TDRs and the like, and aside from 2 driver restarts after starting a YouTube video with HA on, and the odd screen flicker, I haven't had a single crash. Even WMP has worked without crashing.. touch wood...

These are the entries I changed/added, and I created these reg files from my own edited registry. Feel free to try them, byt remember to create a system restore point first. I'm using Windows 7 x64, but they should work with x86 and Vista. I can't guarantee they'll have the exact same effect for everyone, though.

M1730 black screen playing video

I'm also having this problem after upgrading to windows 7 64 on my M1730 8700 GT.

The problem does not always come up, sometimes I can watch 10 videos before the black screen presents itself, sometimes it happens after watching some photos. (this morning it happend when I watched photos of Poetin being re-elected).

After this I went to this formum and watched the proposed solutions. I went to page 3 and found out that one guy fixed the problem with an older version of flash player. I just removed my flash version (version 11.xxx) and reinstalled a version 10.1.xxx (difficult to find an older version) I did exactly what I did this morning before the black screen came up. I watched some videos, watched the photos of Poetin again and....so far everything went well. ;););) I will let you guys know whenever the problem is there again or otherwise what the situation is after a week

Udate: After 3 days and playing numerous video's I still did not crash. Looks like the old flash player solution did it in my situation

Hey guys, I'm happy to report I decided to try out the Nvidia R300 drivers when I reinstalled Windows 7, and have a very stable system now. No problems with youtube, windows media player, iplayer etc for over 2 weeks now.

Good news to the long term 8700m GT sufferers!!

Thanx for updating the forum. I just downloaded the new r300 drivers and exited to see if what your saying is also true for me. I very much hope so because besides this problem my m1730 is still running like a song (quote Johnny Cash)
