Crashing and memory dump problem

Hey, I've been having crashes pretty often. It is mostly random where and when it occurs. I'll be using normally and it will just BSOD and memory dump then restart.

I went to Intel's website and ran the driver update and it installed the new one. So far so good!

I can't figure out how to zip the new .dmp it says "file not found or no read permissions."

Copy the minidump(s) to another location on your machine before attempting to zip them up.

Uncanny. Two similar problems in a row, albeit in different drivers. Try to find and install any updated Win7-compatible versions of this NIC driver:

Also, update your BIOS and chipset drivers.

The direct cause of the crash is NETw5s64.sys having a little sleep (going inactive) to the point where the OS loses patience, but it's more difficult to tell whether the driver is just buggy, or whether the BIOS needs an update, or whether the NIC hardware is borked.

If all else fails, using a different NIC (with a different driver) will almost certainly do the trick.

I think it's the driver. Not from knowledge of the specific cause. Rather because I've seen it on at least 5 machines in the last week or so. Has to be a buggy driver imho with odds like that.

Could also be on all machines needing bios update as H2SO4 also says. I forget off the top of my head which make/model they were.

Yes. You could look in device manager under network adapters. If you right click on them, choose properties, go to driver tab, then click on driver details, it will tell you which it is actually using. Easy way to tell which it belongs to.

Yeah it is my Intel 5100 wireless card that uses that driver. but I just updated the driver so what do I do?

No probs mate.

Despite torrentg's vote of confidence (thanks ), it's really almost impossible to tell from the minidumps just why the NIC driver (I'm old fashioned in the sense that I use "NIC" for both ethernet and wifi) has gone inactive. Therefore, all we can really hope to do is to update those portions of the software environment which work with the NIC driver, in the hope that the problem -whatever it may be - will go away.

There's rarely any real "debugging" where minidumps are concerned. It's more a case of educated guesswork based on the component which appears to be experiencing problems.

Though I haven't had any BSOD since Ii last posted (knock on wood) I was unable to update my chipset or BIOS. Every time I tried to run the .exe for either it would basically say that I had the wrong version. I'm not sure if the problem is fixed. When i check the wireless drivers the Net drivers is still there. Is that okay? In the wireless driver details section I have ...system32\DRIVERS\NETw5s64.sys and ...system32\drivers\vwifibus.sys along with two .dlls ending in NETw5(c/r)64.dll. Is this correct?
