Crashing Windows 7!

I am currently using the evaluation copy of Win7 (V6.1.7100), and it has become unstable. It sometimes crashes when I connect a USB Flash drive to it. I am willing to create a crash report and send it to them if I know how to generate such a report and where to send it.

By crash report I assume you are refering to a blue screen dump file

they ar elocated in c:\windows\minidump. It you want to have us debug the dump please zip the dump file and uplaod it to us

The event viewer will also hold reports of this nature (if what zigzag3143 says is not relevant (BSOD) (they are easily exported). Please also bear in mind that Windows 7 build 7100 is a release candidate, which is of course not a finished product and will be prone to these sorts of issues.
When you say sometimes crashes, when exactly does it happen? After hibernation? Running specific programs? What are you trying to connect? PC specs?

Thanks for your replies. Sorry that I didn’t get back sooner; but the system I was referring to eventually crashed completely and I had to reinstall it, and I forgot about this thread. The cause of the crash was something different than the original problem. It happened as a result of installing the wrong driver on it. I can tell you how it happened in case Microsoft wants to reproduce it and fix any potential problems.

I bought a new ATI Radeon HD4850 1GB PCI-E graphics card for it from Maplins which you can see here. I installed it and it worked great. Windows found the right deriver for it and everything was fine. But these cards usually come with other software that help to manage it; so I put the CD that came with the card in the drive to see if there are any more useful programs on it. The interface that came up did not have many options. I clicked on one of those options and Windows immediately crashed, and would not restart. It tried to repair itself several times, including doing a system restore; but none of it worked. In the end it came up with a message saying that Windows cannot be repaired, and asked to send a report to Microsoft that I let it send.

It not only wrecked Windows; it nearly wrecked the hardware as well. At one point the graphics card became red hot, and smell of burning came out of it, and the entire motherboard became very hot. The CPU became hot, the chips on the motherboard became very hot, and it nearly burned up the entire PC. But luckily it survived, and I was able to reinstall the OS. I would have expected something like this from XP, but not from W7. I would have expected it to be better protected against that kind of mishap. It could happen to anybody who buys the card and innocently puts the CD in the drive to see what is on it. I usually crash my computer more than the average, because I tend to mess about with them quite a lot; but I had never experienced such a near disaster before.

I have another installation that is now giving me a different kind of problem. When I click to shut it down, sometimes it does a restart instead! It doesn’t happen every time, but it happens often enough. I would be willing to debug it if I knew how.
