Create new network connection to FTP Client

Has anyone ever tried to change from XP to Vista, and create a new network connection to an FTP client? the "My Network" menu option has disapeared in both Vista and Win 7. The most logical choice therefore would be to look under Network for a menu option to do this. Nope.... Not there either.

I found out how to do it. It may be easy, but not if you cannot find it. Users should not have to search that hard to find an answer.

To help users, is there any plan to restore a menu option to do that under Networking?

How about putting Networking back under the Start Menu?

I mentioned this in another thread, but I think this is a better thread to post under.

It's been a couple of days since I have posted. I was wondering if my last post has been read by anyone who might be able to comment on weather my suggestion(s) might have merit; what chance it/they might have of being incorparated; or if a "fix" is being considered already.

I don't think anything will change at this point, but you can add "network" to the startmenu and it is in the navigation pane of windows explorer.

In addition to that if you want quick access to the ftp location you can pin it to the taskbar or startmenu, or display "computer" in your startmenu as a menu, plus you can add it to the favorites in the navigation pane of windows explorer.

Sigh.... Thank you for your reply. I did pin networking to the start menu. The problem was difficulty in finding out how to set up the FTP site now that all the more familure menu options have disappeared, and been moved to places that are hard to find and do not make sense to me.

I cannot fathom the reason to move things like that. One would think that My Network Places, was renamed, and Network would be the place to find the menu options people have grown used to finding there. Perhaps moved, or rearranged on the page.

We are all creatures of habit, and after finding out where/how things work, It's nice to have some familiarity with how things work in the next interface. I understand change is good. Just not change for no reason. Vista was not all bad. Yes there were driver, and other real problems, but the main gripe, and where the heaviest resistance to the OS came from, was the sweeping changes to the user interface with (To me) an apparent disregard for those that actually have to use it. Win 7 is going to face that hurdle all over again. The blow is going to be a little softer because of Vista. People downgraded in droves. A lot of people are going to try to go to Win 7 directly from XP. Not all change is good. Especially change for change sake. Nobody wants to read an engineering manual to become familure with a new OS. They just want it to work.

I really hope this is taken as the positive input it is meant to be, in spite of the negative tone.
