Created a new user... 1 problem

Hi,
I've created a new user for someone else on my local computer, but there is 1 problem; most of the stuff that is on *MY* desktop, is on the new users' desktop. The reason I think is because I chose "Install for all users", because I thought I'd be the only user on the machine. That changed and now I want a fresh desktop for this new user.
Any ideas?

You might have to un-install all those apps then re-install. Do you have a backup from before when then apps were installed?

Nope I installed them all about 1 year ago (when I got this computer). Is there a simpler situation? All I wanna do is remove the short cuts from the desktop at least.

Or can I just go to the other account and uninstall them all from there? Will that affect my OWN account?

I'd delete the user account and read this article about setting user privileges which I think will be a benefit for when you make the user account again. Windows 2000, XP, Vista & 7 User Account Privileges Explained

No need to delete the user account...

You can just remove/delete them or move them to a folder of your choosing. I just created a new user on a Win7 machine and wound up moving the shortcuts to a different folder off the desktop. Depending on the account (Admin or Limited) you may have to provide credentials (password) to move or delete them.

Last time I tried that, though, it deleted them from my own desktop. Sure its safe? I don't wanna go through that again >_<.

Hello Chase,

You will just need to cut and paste the shortcuts from the hidden protected OS "All Users" C:\Users\Public\Desktop folder location that you do not want all users to have to your C:\Users\(user-name)\Desktop folder instead.

If you don't want to delete them, just move them as I stated above.

BTW shortcuts on one desktop shouldn't affect another desktop unless you "removed the program" so...

Shawn, So that i'm clear...

All he want's is for the shortcuts that appear on one desktop to not be on the other?

now I want a fresh desktop for this new user.

In that case all he has to do is move them.

That's exactly what I did when I created my wife's user account on my other Win 7 computer. And the way I've done it on XP.

He's not asking to "restrict" them, which I think people are getting confused on.

But maybe I missing something.

Hello Drew,

It seems to me that Chase wants the shortcuts that were added to the "All Users" Public Desktop folder when he installed the programs to only be in his user account's Desktop folder to show only on his Desktop and not others. Moving them from the Public Desktop folder to his Desktop folder will do this.

Yeah Shawn. I understand that and agree. It just seems to me the long way round of moving them as all I did was remove them from the "user's" desktop.

I will note that since the added user didn't have admin privileges I had to provide "my" user password to remove them. I suppose doing it your way is quicker and more efficient. Whatever works though right
