Creating 2 instances of the same printer in Windows 7

Somehow in Windows XP, I was able to create two instances of the same USB connected printer. One instance - set as default (named Canon IP1700 single-page) to print 1 page per sheet and another instance (named Canon IP1700 2-in-1) to print 2-pages per sheet (not both sides) to save on paper. In Windows-7 there doesn't seem to be a way to do this. I have to manually go into my deep printers settings every time I print to verify or change these settings.
Is it possible to create two separate instances of the same printer, so I can just select the printer instance that has the defined settings I want for a particular print job?

Thanks

With the printer turned on unplug the USB cable and move it to a different USB port. You might get lucky and end up with "Canon IP1700 2". If that doesn't work, rename the printer before you move the USB cable. I did something similar, by accident, and ended up with two entries for the one printer. In my case it was a pain because I couldn't delete either one. I could delete one or the other or both and a few seconds latter they would be back. Be careful what you wish for because if memory serves me, only one of them actually worked.
