If the background is transparent, then you need to save the image as either .gif or .png to maintain the transparency.

The brigade logo requires a .BMP image format.

Hi
BMP like JPEG is not an option if you need a transparant background, they just don't support it. Only PNG or GIF will do that as dre@ms and Tews said.
If whoever you are producing this for needs it as a BMP then you can be fairly sure that if they can use a BMP then there should be no reason why they cannot use a GIF. If you need help producing a GIF with a transparant back ground and haven't the necessary software email me the BMP you have created and I will create a GIF with trans. background for you.

Well the logo is for a game called AirRivals, the image should be BMP. I've seen many players ingame who ere able to make one with transparent backgorunds (they're only able to use BMP images for their logos)

Then maybe you should ask them how they did it, but BMP files do not support an alpha channel ( transparency ) Good Luck..

I am not into gaming but I can see a possible way that this can be done. If the game uses a video format , as most do, then it is possible to import a BMP with a colored background and use a facility called Chroma Key to make the colored background transparent WHILST IT IS PART OF THE VIDEO. As a straightfoward stand alone BMP image the background cannot be transparent. I can produce a short video for You tube to demonstarte this if you wish (can't do it till tomorrow though. Takes a bit of time and I am supposed to be gardening :()
There is only one other way I have found that this can be done and that is within a MS Publisher document. You can import a BMP and turn the background transparent. This I a still version of the video method. But you can't export that BMP from Publisher with a trans. bg.

Well I have downloaded the trial version of Photoshop CS4 and carried out the tutorial to the letter. It does save a BMP with a transparent background but when you copy and paste over another image the background shows White as before. I've tried this 4 times now without success.
EDIT
Gif and PSD work though!

I have delved into this transparency issue during the past couple of days. I contacted Marc Emile of Axialis software who wrote the tutorial mentioned in an earlier post and he kindly replied as follows:

Yes, the BMP format supports transparency. However, 2 things may happen:

1/ You do not save the transparent information channel (Alpha Channel). You
must select 32-bit color depth while saving the BMP.

2/ When you reload the BMP, the alpha channel is not loaded because the
software or SDK you use does not support alpha channels.

So it appears that this is possible . I did save using 32 bit color but have nowhere to upload the BMP file I created that has the Alpha Channel loaded. If, Coolbyte, you do not have the necessary software to follow the tutorial I would be very happy to produce a BMP for you to try on the Game. I hate loose ends and would really like to conclude this one as I have spent a bit of time on it and would like to see a positive result. I doubt I shall ever need a BMP with a transparent backgound but there is no such thing as useless knowledge in my book. If you would like me to create the BMP then post here and I will send you my email address by PM and you can send me your logo as an attachment. Ypou can't upload the logo here as the forum does not support BMP format attachments.
