I want to move my previous XP install to a vhd. Is that possible?

I have a fresh install inside of XP mode, but I'm not liking xp mode at all. I started messing with Virtual box and I'm liking it more, I'll probably be using that instead.

Is there a way to backup an XP install into a vhd and then run it through a virtual machine?

Yes you can back up xp to a Vhd by using tools like Norton ghost software.:)

It should run in virtual machine on the same computer over another host os like windows 7. But i don`t know for sure.

I have mentioned it before but still have not got around to trying this. Windows 7 full system backup creates a vhd so you could do a back up of the XP partition and boot from that or use it in virtual box. Anyone game to try it?.

I didn't think of using the backup inside of windows to do it. What I tried earlier was creating a .vhd through windows 7 disk management, copy over everything manually. I then tried to boot the xp inside of virtual box, but I got a bunch of booting errors. I then tried to do a repair install inside the virtual machine, that got me as far as the log in screen. Froze there. Then I was just getting errors from Virtualbox.

I'll try the backup method tomm, and see I i can track down a free ghosting software.
