Solved Creating new user account adds TWO accounts

On my laptop I created a new user account called "Colin". When I looked (in Windows Explorer) under "users" there were two new accounts listed, one called "Colin" and one called "Colin.laptop". Of these, only "Colin" appears at Login or if accounts are viewed under "User Accounts" in Control Panel. Yet the "Colin.laptop" account is the one where newly created files etc are being stored when logged in as "Colin".
I'd appreciate help in understanding this and do I need to take any action?

Thanks
Paul

Was this created during install or added to other User Account(s) afterwards? What about the other User Accounts now? If you had a Colin account established at install then it will hang around in some places even after deleting until a reinstall.

Did you establish Colin as an Admin account? If so is the other Colin also an Admin account when you look in User Accounts>Manage another Account? Can you delete it if it shows up there as a Duplicate? If so put its files on desktop until you're sure.

Thanks Gregrocker - problem solved!
Your comment about accounts hanging around made me realise that there was a "Colin" hanging around that I had thought had been deleted. Presumably when I tried to create "Colin" again the computer re-named this new account "Colin.laptop" to distinguish it from the already existing "Colin". You would think that it might just tell you that the account name you are trying to create already exists...!

Thanks again
Paul
