Creating Restore Point and Monthly Patches now take a long time

Ok it was just that you posted this I was just wondering if the seller had bundled Norton with machine- thats all.

I am happy to report that today download an install of the 3 monthly patches took less than 30 minutes.

Well that's good to hear and the RAM well it is a matter of choice really and you are using two channels anyway - but if it were me I would go 4GB because you are running a 64bit system and more RAM is always better than the minimum.

The choice and budget is yours of course but here are some memory sticks that would suit your machine

I prefer Corsair over Crucial but either is still good and these are the best of a short search I did.
Now getting them in this fashion means that you will have a "matched pair" of sticks in your machine that in itself is so much better then having sticks that are different brands and come from different manufacturing batches. Plus the prices on these are really very reasonable.

I finally figured how to get inside my HP Compaq desktop. There a small recessed button that's the same silvery color as the top panel located front and center on the top. Press that down and the top slides back. Actually for being in a REALLY dusty home for 5 years and a few months and never having been opened since acquisition, it didn't seem that bad. I had a upright desktop previously (running Windows XP) and when I opened THAT one up after I had it about a year, there were cobwebs like Spanish moss and a dead moth inside the case.

Ok now I have attached a pic of the part that is probably very dusty can you remove that "cover" and have a look because it looks the same as some older Lenovo setups I have taken apart.

While you know how to get the side panel off now it would be easy for you to get more RAM into that machine because as I said before 3GB running Ultimate is really asking a lot of the RAM you have installed there.

Now if you do decide to up the RAM it is best to get it in matched pairs but as I don't know what speed RAM you have I cannot link you to some good sticks as I am also assuming the board will only support 4GB anyway.

But I am very curios as to what is under that cover.

I appreciate your curiosity, but I am dubious about too much fiddling with the innards when I don't know what I am doing. I may end up in a worse situation.

Windows 7 ultimate does not need any more memory to run than any other version, I've had it running on multiple systems with 2GB RAM without any issues, I've even had it running on a 10" netbook with 1GB of RAM 3 GB is perfectly usable

Yes you and me alike as I have a had hell descend on me and I think the updates are to blame.
