Creative Driver Update Messes Up Mouse and Internet

Hello all,

I installed the Creative X-Fi Audio Processor update (10/22/2009), and it completely messed up my computer (Windows 7 x64).

I accidentally installed this update while checking if I had new updates to install. Little did I know that it would cause me much grief. I rebooted the system so that the updates could finish, and when I saw my login screen things went bad. The screen resolution was all out of whack (800x600, while my regular resolution is 1920x1080). To make matters worse, the mouse won't move. When I logged in, I discovered the internet wouldn't work either. Soon, a popup window popped up, saying that "No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning properly. Please install the ATI driver appropriate for your ATI hardware." I went to the display settings (using only the keyboard) and discovered that my default resolution was no longer on the list. Dejected, I went on my other PC and downloaded the ATI driver pack for my video card on the crippled computer. I transfered it via flash drive to the crippled computer and installed it - rebooted, my resolution was back to normal, but the mouse and internet were still not working. I then transfered a Creative driver pack I got from the official site and put it on the flash drive and transferred it - no changes. I then used Guru3d's Driver Sweeper to get rid of the dregs of the Creative drivers, rebooted, nothing, and now my audio's dead too.

What's most depressing is that I'd installed this update a while ago, and discovered that this happened, and quickly did a system restore, and everything was okay. This time, for some reason, all my system restores failed and by the time I figured out they were corrupt or something, there were so many undo system restore points on the system restore screen that there were no more points from before the installation.
Info:
Last update before Creative driver installation: Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB91597 (4/12/2010).
No error codes from update - in fact it states it's successful.
Antivirus: ESET NOD32 (Norton I never activated)
Clean install of W7, computer came with it

Does anyone have any ideas to fix this horrid problem? Thanks very much in advance.

It seems as though I cannot uninstall the update. For some reason only 5 or so updates appear in the box, and none of them are actually Windows updates (KBxxxxx) or third party updates such as Creative. All that's there is some Adobe updates and other miscellaneous ones.

The repair install doesn't cause any files or programs I've installed to be lost, right? Anything irreversible in this repair?

However, after reading the repair install page, it states that the drivers will sometimes stay the same. Do you know if Creative drivers are one of them that change (hopefully) or they stay the same?

Oh, I forgot to mention, I don't have the Windows 7 retail disk - my OS came preloaded with my machine.

I've said that system restore doesn't work. All of my old system restores are now in the beyond. I find it ridiculous how W7 only allows 6 or 7 restore points default before they start getting erased.

I've done some fiddling.

The mouse did not work in safe mode, but I did get it working by uninstalling and restarting (Device manager). The same thing I did to the internet. Therefore, now both my internet and mouse are fully functional. Now, the only problem I have left is the audio. I hadn't noticed before, but the audio seems to be out too. I tried doing the same thing as I did with the internet and mouse, but it actually harmed the whole thing - my sound card (Creative SB X-Fi Titanium) suddenly was unrecognized. In a panic, I tried re-installing the drivers that caused the problem in the first place, hoping the drivers would help. Wrong. I then blue-screened. So that didn't work. I went into safe mode and system restored back to the most recent restore point. I then proceeded to re-fix my internet and mouse. I had previously been fiddling around with the Creative programs, trying to delete them (which was actually a bad idea) with Guru3d's Driver Sweep tool. Luckily for me, the program made backups. I had just discovered this, so I restored the files and registry keys back to their original places. However, I have not yet risked trying to uninstall the sound card and restarting yet. I have made a restore point at this point.

What do you guys think I should do? It is apparent that for some reason the Creative driver pack hates my computer and doesn't want to cooperate, and I don't think it would be a good idea to re-install it, at least at this point, or I risk having to fix the blue screen, again.

Help!

I know this is an old posting, but this guy summed up pretty well the fustration ive been going through with my 6 month year old machine. Everything he mentioned is exactly what has been happening to me.

If someone has a solution to this it would be great. I sure would like to file a complaint to ms.

It is a old post and better answers would probably come if you started a new thread and state your problem.
Note: The drivers were not created by Microsoft. They were created by a 3rd party. Who ever that 3rd party is are the ones to make the driver work properly not Microsoft.
