Creative Recon3D sound card - no bass? Is there an equalizer anywhere?

Hi y'all! I've just bought a cheap Creative Recon 3d PCIe audio card online; I've been using the built-in audio on an Asus P9X79 motherboard for years but wanted something clearer. Firstly - the card is a short PCIe x1 card but that slot is already used by my wi-fi card so I put it into a longer blue PCIE x 16 slot; I'm assuming that's okay as it works?
Secondly - the sound through BOSE cable-connected headphones is very clear, but no bass. Is there any way I can boost the bass as it's very tinny and trebly? I have to set it to 'stereo' and run it through the sound card headphone jack but is there anyway of giving it more 'oomph' in the lower ranges? Even on 5.1 stereo the 'subwoofer' setting is very thin. I like the clarity but not the lack of bass. Creative no longer seem to supply any kind of graphic equaliser with their cards, and whilst I have the option to select 5.1 or stereo, I can't adjust the individual sound. Can this be done through Windows 7 itself or is there any other solution?

Did you install the associated software?-

After you install it, you should be able to open Sound Blaster Audiology, Creative Audio Center. There is an equalizer there.

In addition, when you open the Audio Center, you can select Speakers and then Bass Settings, among other things.

I don't know why you think you're not getting any bass.

I installed all of the software on the CD that came with it, but there's no desktop icon for any kind of balancer nor is there one in the sidebar menu - I'll go search again. One other thing - it seems to be playing in mono; when I set the menu to 'stereo' instead of 5.1 (I use headphones on this system for gaming) and test the channels, both sounds come through both speakers, not one left and one right.

You should be able to click on Start, All Programs and find the Creative apps including the ones I mentioned. In the Audio Center, Speakers, you can select Head Phones and make the same kind of adjustments you can make with the speakers.

Ok - steps so far - I've managed to reload the CD that came with the card; now I've got the Creative Setup (it seems if I want an audio toolbar I have to pay for it these days) so while I can choose headphones and stereo sound I can't adjust treble or bass. I've solved one problem - the jackplug on the headphones was a 4-section plug, and by using a different set of headphones with a 3-section plug I've now got proper stereo sound. Before, it all came through both ears equally. The sound is very clear, very noisy compared to the ASUS on-board audio, and just lacking a fine tuner. I'll keep looking but it's not as straightforward as my XIFI card was. Thanks for your help so far.

If it's noisy because of high frequency, you can reduce the 16 kHZ in the equalizer. Also, note that when you enable the equalizer, it is set to EQ Flat by default. You can change that to another sound that more suits what you're listening to.

It could be that your 4 section plug is an Apple design in which the ground and mic sleeves are reversed from the original design for the 4 section plugs.

You can also by an adapter-
Scan Sound Headphones, Earphones, Headphone Covers, Foam Earpads and MRI Stereo Systems

to connect your 4 section plug to a 3 section female plug.
