Hi Kovans,

The first thing i would try is boot in 'Safe Mode' and run 'Device Manager'. Then, uninstall ALL sound devices you find. Next, right-click 'Computer' from the start menu & select properties, then 'Advanced system settings' and under Hardware click 'Device Installation Settings' and make sure that 'Yes, do this automatically (recommended)' is selected. Next restart the machine. When Windows reboots it will start the 'New Hardware detected' wizard, and will check Windows Update to see if the drivers are available.

Once this is done you may/will need to install the latest drivers from the creative website in 'Cpmatability' mode for Vista/XP depending of the drivers you download.

Hope this helps :)

One thing that could be causing the problems you are having with your sound card,

Dell Dimension 4500

which uses the Intel 845 chipset. Seeing as Intel has basically dropped all support for that chipset (last driver is for XP, and it is 4 years old), which means you are stuck with whatever Windows 7 installs as default drivers. It is entirely possible that the default driver is just a basic driver, enough for 7 to run, but not enough to tell it what to go and do with itself regarding the rest of the hardware in the system.

One thing you can try is to use Winrar to extract the Audigy driver, then through Device Manager try installing the driver manually,

-right click on the sound card in Device Manager and select 'Update driver'
-click on "Browse my computer"
-click on "let me choose"
-click on "Have disk"
-click on Browse and navigate to the Vista-Drivers folder and point it to the file "P17.inf"

Not sure what if anything else gets installed with the SE drivers (the regular Audigy drivers install the Audio Console as well), but if that works you should be able to run the regular installer to get whatever else may be installed.
