Jif is not logical. I really do not care what the inventor says about its pronunciation, for me it's GIF not JIF. The reasoning behind this is the same as in why we call ourselves Geeks not Jeeks.

I think jif is fine, how do we pronounce "gel"? Or "gelid".

All the words with "ough" have to be very confusing for a non-English speaker to learn without having grown up with it. When pronouncing gif it sounds awfully like "gift".
