critical system drivers missing

Can you boot into Safe Mode? If so, check the Event Viewer for which driver is failing.

Run chkdsk on the HD, then the maker's diagnostics/repair full CD scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

Test your memory using memtest86 CD.

Clear the CMOS to return BIOS to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Try setting SATA controller to AHCI first, then IDE if necessary.

Did you zero the HD using Clean All command, then create and format partition before install?

Did you complete all of the above steps, including running the HD full diag/repair CD scan?

Download driver scane from google of just insert the system disc and then find or repair windows

Running HD diagnostics/repair CD scan, chkdsk /r, and then zeroing the HD with DISKPART Clean All commands given by Theog earlier will give your HD a clean bill of health and provide the cleanest slate for trying install.

What I sometimes do when I don't have time to troubleshoot failed install any longer is move the HD to another machine, install Win7, then return HD to problem machine. If it will start up (as has happened about a dozen times now), then it will swap out all drivers, requesting several restarts, and no performance issues thusfar.

Hi All,

Thank-you to everyone who has helped! Great forum!

similar problem with cng.sys file

hi everybody

i had a similar problem with "windows could not start..." "your hardware might have changed, critical driver cng.sys missing".

i tried to repair, but the original windows 7 installation disk got just to the same point.

i replaced the hdd to a new one and tried a clean install, but got just to the same point of cng.sys missing.

finally i connected the original hdd and replaced the ram module, the installation disk got me to the repair options page, the repair option run for 10 minutes and announced that it can't fix the problem.
afterwards i was able to start the machine with "last good configuration".

later i returned the original ram module and it worked fine too.

i don't know what caused the problem in the first place and don't know what fixed it.

greetings, hazzi

If probs persisit, Run sfc /scannow as Admin.

Test your RAM with memtest86 CD for 5-6 passes or overnight to really stress-test it.

Test your HD's with Disk Check and the maker's full diag/repair CD scan.

Consider a Repair Install.

problem solved with memtest86

the machine kind of worked, but not smoothly as expected.
i ran memtest86 as gregrocker advised, the moment memtest86 started
it flooded my screen with errors.
so finally it really was a faulty ram module.
i put in a new one and everything runs smoothly.
thanks gregrocker! great job!

greetings, hazzi
